New to the truck forum, I am wondering if anyone has any pics of the original radio/cd player/tape deck that would have come in the 92 or there abouts year. I know or at least think it was a double din height.

Also does anyone know what other Toyota OEM radios would fit the standard toyota harness such as a land cruiser radio or something similiar like the 95-97 landcruisers/scion setup?

Thanks in advance.

Whoah. Slow down there fella.

I demand pics of your vehicle, especially the 1KZ-TE install. Did you have someone else install it, or was it all you?

I *think* I might have the OEM radio from my '91 kicking around the garage somewhere. I'll take a peek tonight to see what I can find. If it was the OEM unit, it was single DIN in my case. It's a double DIN opening, but mine has a compartment below the head unit.

A good friend of mine and I did the work, wiring harness was sent off for repairs but installation was over about 5 months. I have to give my buddy 95% of the credit, I helped with the engine mounting locations, and placing everything under the truck in the proper locations prior to installation.

I will get some pictures up and maybe even try to compile some sort of write up on the truck, but as I said my buddy did more of the work as he actually started and completed the project, I was there to lend a hand and a little additional advise for a second opinion at times.

I have been reading your write-up on your 2LT-E install. We had a very similar setup while working on the truck. I am curious if I will get similar mileage to what you have experienced.

Thanks for checking on the radio. I wasn't exactly sure on the radio, I did some research and had seen a few 91-93 radios that were siingle din.

I think our old 90 4Runner had a CD/Cassette... and that it was a double din.... As for plug and play, probably only truck/4Runner of close years. 92/93 saw a lot of changes electrically....

Yes, we need a rig of the month out of you!!! Please sign up with Pappy! :D

We want diesel, we want diesel, we want.... Diesel!!!! :D

Yeah! ROTM!!!! I am kind of bummed that I've already written mine up, so it wouldn't make any sense to do one. Besides: I know what mine looks and drives like. I want to know more about the 1KZ-TE.

I looked through the garage a bit, and couldn't find the stereo, so either it's still lost or I got rid of it years ago.

Why the emphasis on OEM? The stereo is one of the few places that I'm not set on Toyota parts.

This is the factory head unit that was in my '92 4Runner:

I don't know if they ever put them in pickups, but I've also seen them in a lot of 80's in that vintage. It was actually a very nice unit, decent sound, and a lot of features on it. It also automatically controlled the power antenna, making it go up and down only when the radio was on. There is no internal amp in it, there was a small seperate amp in the bottom of the console for the front speakers, and the rear speakers had amps built into them. The problem with this unit is that it relied on several belts to make the CD player function, and after about 6-8 years in a hot dashboard the belts would fall apart and the CD player would quit. Like most people, when this happened to mine I found out that it was cheaper to just get a newer/better aftermarket head unit instead of having this one repaired.

On the other end of the scale, I still have the stock head unit that was in my ex's '94 pickup when we bought it. It is a 2-piece thing, upper is the radio and the bottom half is a cassette player (no CD). In typical Toyota fashion, it sounds TERRIBLE, I couldn't wait to get that POS swapped out. You can have it if you really want the OEM look.

And in typical fashion, the stock radio in our '04 Highlander sounds TERRIBLE. I really need to get that upgraded...
