From th previous post: 1. Storm system moving in over mt taylor. We were in the outback when it started to pick up in the valley. We made it back to the pavement just in time. We had to drive about 30 all the way back due to water on the roads and low visibility. All the washes were in flashflood state. 2-3. When we got into town we went to where it always floods and drove around some. From this post. 1. More flood. 2. We found this critter on the highway trying to escape the rising water. He is a bullsnake. They either play dead or show an agressive pose while hissing.

This is evan williams. In mississippi they won't sell him in the grocery store and they hide him in a brown paper bag when you get him at the "package" store. In new mexico you can buy him off the grocery aisle in walmart but he has to wear a little locking cap to keep the natives from sipping him without paying.

Up to now all my excursions have been in the malpais region and zuni canyon. Today was our first forays into higher gruond. We went a little ways up mt taylor (lobo canyon) today. More to come. I want to drive up to the summit this weekend and do some trails along the way.

thats a big damn horse shoe.
If I were you I'd buy that truck and spiff it up, if only for sentimental reasons. Those old Datsuns are rugged. I owned a '72 that ran for over 300K miles before I sold it. Never spent a cent on repairs other than routine maintenance.

. I've certainly entertained that thought. It woud be a perfect car for my 14 year old when the time comes. Not sure how I' d get it back home. I wonder if my cruiser would pull it on a dolly without harm. Opinions?

I am sure they are around. I would bring it back. That would be a great truck for your son.
I sold mine over 10 years ago but never had difficulty locating parts back in the day. I'd guess parts would still be readily available. Datsun used that engine for a number of years.
Here's a guy who's attempting to compile a list of parts sources.

Today I celebrated my independance from the rule of the british crown by conquering THE MESA. I took on one of the steeper, boulder strewn trails in search of some high ground to watch the various fireworks displays in the area.
