He may do you a favor but it is not as easy as building kitchen cabinets. building a custom fit drawer system for a LC is like building cabinets for boats or Airstreams.

Very Nice! I have not really researched this topic but those are very nice cabinets. I copied the pics from Zane's thread and from spikey's thread. I will have my cabinet maker build me a set of these.

I buy a lot of custom cabinets from him so I imagine he will do it for price of material or less. That is hard to beat.

I had a chance to spend some time checking out these drawer systems in Aussie last year, very well built and designed. I think we'll all agree the price is up there but the low market volume, high quality construction and exchange rate between the USD and AUD all combine to land it where it is. I don't think it will be the best option for all but I think for those that want a turn-key solution and have more budget then time, they will be a great solution.

I always find it interesting when someone will work for free or in your case less than free. He must of made too much $$$ from you in the past and feels guilty.

Not sure what to say about this .

I agree with you. But I didn't read that Zane or spikey make their living building cabinets for boats or airstreams. I am guessing they are both just handymen that have a basic understanding of how stuff works. I am pretty sure I can build these in my garage but I am going to use my cabinet shop because they do this stuff every day.

There is no doubt that the ARB and Slee drawer systems are MUCH nicer than homemade. I am sure they are worth every penny. I can imagine they would be much better for offroad use where you are twisting and flexing. I also imagine that you would gain a fair amount of extra cubic inches of storage space because of the ability to recess the slides and the amount of space 1/2" plywood will take up instead of sheet metal. I would definitely own a set of Slee or ARB if money were no object.

I do not agree with all of this statement. There are + and - to each type of drawer system. Slee has great quality, and design (the mix of wood and metal is a great design becouse the wood will reduce the vidration created by the metal) but are heavy and do not custom fit to your truck. ARB will be simular too Slee but with carpet. AVT drawers are very light but some people are scared that the composit material will have long term problems. I personally have seen all of these and they are all good options. I would run any of them in my truck. All of these systems have strengths and different drawbacks. A home built system can achieve the perfect balance for what you will use it for. Also the correct 1/2" plywood is much lighter then sheet metal, and when done right you will not have any problems with strength. Wood is flexible that is what makes it a great material to build with in trucks. I think you would be happy with any of these options. And I agree that your cabinet guys will do a good job, it will just take longer then they think.

Right.

I don't make my living making cabinets.

Just a handyman with a friend who has some tools in his garage.

I spent ~$400 for materials. Could be done cheaper without compromising durability.

Charles.... I didn't realize you are the Warfield Off-road guy. I followed your thread closely and have looked at your website. You do very professional work and probably much nicer than I will be able to do.

Did you ever finish the 100 series system? I see the link on your website under prices but have not seen pics of the actual system installed in a 100 series. Can you post some at the end of your drawer system thread? This one... https://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series...f-road-100-series-drawer-storage-systems.html .

I am not dead set on building my own. Would just like to see all alternatives.

Yeah I will post pics when I have them. I think that anyone that has the time, desire, and skill should make there own. That is how WOR started I made the first system for my 80. I am always happy to help anybody, so shoot me an email if you have a question on your build, or need help sourcing hardware.

Those ARB drawers look really nice. I like that they offer some increased height options but I wish that someone made some 13" or 14" high drawers. I have to take about four or five expensive looking bags of police equipment in and out of my truck every day and some of them are about 13" tall and need to sit upright. I'm always worried about having that stuff in plain view and would love to find some cargo drawers that would let me keep it concealed and locked up when not in use.

HAWKEYE
I read your post and you seem very knowledgeable about the subject and you have seen both drawers in person. What would you recommend I purchase. I am 6'2" 245lbs. My K9 & I will be using the rear as a sleeping platform & possibly the Girlfriend. Roof top tent is too expensive at this point. I like both drawer companies and thought you would know which would be the best as to support the weight of myself, dog and possible girlfriend, along with an air mattress on top to help even everything out and for comfort. UNLESS you think I am too heavy and/or the space above my body and the roof is too small for comfort. Then I will HAVE to buy the roof top tent. BUT I would still want to buy the best drawers you recommend for storage, etc even if you say that I can't use it as a sleeping platform. Thank you for your time in reading my email sir. Any and all advice, suggestions and/or recommendations is greatly appreciated. Sincerely, CJ Johnson
