I have a ARB Compressor and locker in the rear. When i press the compressor switch, it turns on and after about 15 seconds of pumping stops, which i normal. Then immediately when i flip the rear locker switch, the pump starts to repump and does not stop because there is an obviouse air leak noise coming from the pump. If you look at the pic it is coming from one of the things that are mounted next to the air line. The air is leaking out of that little hole. Now here is the wierd part, when you remove or unplug that part, the leaking stops, but the locker still does not work. What is the problem guys.

So you have the air compressor (at the bottom) and attached to it is a small air receiver (the thing with the ARB AIR LOCKER sticker on it). Screwed into the air receiver are three items, from left to right: A solenoid valve, a pressure switch and another solenoid valve. The solenoid valves have an electrical end (where the wires go) and a valve end (where the air line is inserted). It is the solenoid valve that opens and closes when you turn your switch on and off inside the truck. If air is leaking out the top of solenoid valve (for example out the hole in the star-shaped end facing the camera), then the solenoid valve is probably broken (it's leaking when it is open). If air is leaking out where the air line is installed, then that push-to-lock fitting might be bad, or the air line could be cracked.

Unplugging (disconnecting the wires at the plug) will close the valve, which will not allow air to the locker. Apparently the valve is leaking only when it is open.

You can purchase a replacement from ARB (or an ARB vendor, for example: ARB SOLENOID VALVE and Other Jeep Parts and Jeep Accessories by 4 Wheel Drive Hardware). your valve probably has a blown seal. However, I don't know if it is something that is repairable. If it were me, for $60, I'd first try to take the broken one apart to if it is something that can be fixed.

That black part is the electro magnet that pulls the valve open when fired up. You can unscrew the nut and remove the assembly and check to make sure it is working or replace it. It may be that the thing has debris causing the valve to stick or something. They are easy to fiddle with.

ARB Air locker

Do you not have a ARB locker in the front? If you don't, just switch the solenoids. The above posts are right....the solenoids are easy to open up. Maybe you have something inside that needs to be removed.

when my solenoid went bad it was not fixable :frown:

when you buy a new one, take the old with you since there are different size models depending on age of compressor (ask me how I know )

PS: was the locker in the front removed ?

The solenoids pictured are the latest version and have been in use since 1997, iirc.

There is only one (12V) style that you can get from ARB now, part number 180103.

that is not my picture, i only have a rear locker, thanks guys, is there any temporary thing i can do to just get it to work for this weekends trail ride. man this sucks.

Take the solenoid apart and figure out exactly what is going on with it.

Get an Aussie locker overnighted to you! :D

Where's the ride this weekend?

there is no 4x4 shop in your area? if they sell ARBs, they might also have a solenoid....

or call ARB direct and they may overnight FEDEX it to you (I have gotten excellent customer service from them)

Get one of these Non-Electric Air Locker Switches, some more line and some of those push fittings.. throw it all together to get yourself going, then when time permits mount it up in the dash.. Its what I did with mine, and I'll never have solenoid issues again..
Clippard make them also..

I run a full pneumatic mechanical switch system as above and like it alot, no electronics to fail, I personally had a lot of problems with those arb solenoids....

I'm confused as to how i can get it to work with the mechanical switch your talking about, please be VERY specific.

Just to be sure youve got it, looking at the diagram, the port labelled IN goes to a regulated source of pressurised air, not more than 100psi.. OUT goes to the locker, and EXHAUST just has a mesh filter in it.. Make it look the picture on the Rovers website, its plug and play after that..
