Count me in too

I would really like to join in on this deal and some sort of RHD Alliance. I have a Townace that my wife drives and a double cab Hilux for myself. I also have a friend that just bought a Prado and he would be interested too. Let me know what I can do to help, My email is gglg@shaw.ca

if a member in each province wants to post up the directives, of course guessing doesn't help the cause, we need facts this would be great. then we can compare if need be to find a final solution for anyone that whishes to drive across Canada without the fear of loosing their unit. they still have the right to pull us over but if we comply we should be able to proceed with our holiday.
thanks Louis.
cheers

I'm a little late seeing this post and gather there has been a few inspection requests out West for the LJ 78's and other JDM vehicles.
Is this just a DOT lighting / lens issue they are looking at OR is there more to it??
Sorry if I'm asking something that has been answered else where. I just have not seen it spelled out anywhere.. I want my ride to comply and will do what I can before I get a letter.
As I see it if it is happening out there (West) it won't be long till it happens here in Ontario.. Which brings me to ---Where do we find DOT approved lenses and tail lights that fit our Japanes rides???

Hi Wayne,

I don't think it would work on here as it is just too big a board, gets confusing and info gets dissiminated. A dedicated group for the sole purpose of keeping our rigs on the road, reg. wise, is the way to go. Simply direct al the new JDM owners who ask questions to the yahoo group.

I was invited to the group and am just passing the info on to others in the same boat.

Regards

louis,
i disagree.
if each post there requirements for their province then we have a quick reference location.
as for the Yahoo, i think it is a good idea as well but not everyone likes Yahoo.
cheers

'scuse me for hijacking but:

How's your wife like the townace? I was/am contemplating one for the growing horde, but my wife aint to keen on the idea.
The side door being on the traffic side of things when street parking bothers me, but other than that I like those mini-vans (I cant believe I just said that..no oneheard me right?).
Anyone know of any JDM vans coming in the not so distant future that have the sliders on both sides, or is that just a North American luxury?

you are welcome to start another thread to discuss these vans if you wish. it would save the hijacking...

no offense meant, i am known to hijack a few threads in my time.

if you like the crowbar hotel just say "bomb"...

For those who don't buy the headlight issue, here's a small figure to illustrate light dispersal patterns in a HID kid developed for RHD vehicles from TRD.

p_hid-h4-glaph1.jpg

As you can see, it's not a simple adjustment, the entire light dispersal pattern differs.

The headlight issue is real. Locally some of our drivers put a bit of opaque tape on the lens that covers the portion that sprays left which makes the lens resemble the dark eye shade U.S. Football and baseball players wear and it apparently prevents blinding opposing traffic and is a cheap solution. I was unable to try it as I purchased a set of Taiwan made headlights that seem good enough to serve for me.

My head lights were changed out by the dealer and also moded to be running as soon as my ignition key was turned to on. So my issues are the DOT / SAE markings which none of the lenes have an my truck..

Here is a NOTICE for you in ALBERTA..
http://www.riv.ca/english/NOTICE0604.pdf

(If any one else has anything like this from any other Provincial Gov.. post it, it gives every one a heads up..)

Just something I found on the internet But it gives you a documented idea of what they are looking for...OR could be looking for if you get a re inspection request..
I just want my truck as ready as I can make it before it gets a recall inspection out here, (I'm in Newmarket Ontario Canada) which I'm sure it will as all Provincial Governments jump on the wagon...

Guess it's time to put daytime running lights in my 1990 Hilux. I've wanted to anyways, so this just gives me a good reason to do it. Of course it will have to wait till after I've got the injector pump replaced or fixed. :(

It is funny how some guys can get defensive while others are trying to brainstorm to come up with a viable solution. MJOHN7 has an excellent point with respect being vigilant in at least looking for a solution. I love the idea of an association and would join in an instant. Every local dealer (Alberta) concerned should have their license in hand and at least meet to discuss the options. Having a national body created by licensed dealers would have a voice because it is a small yet growing part of the automotive industry that cannot be ignored.

At the end of the day, none of the licensed dealers in Canada are friends and can be quite competitive. I guess that is why we went into the automotive business to begin with.

I say, pack a lunch, be respectful to one another and produce your license at the door. I look forward to meeting other people in the industry that share the same passion for JDM vehicles as I do.

Just something I found on my LJ78 Prado.
Had to change a dead licence plate rear light Saturday..
So I got out my tools and went to work getting the two screws that hold it in place out.. went without a hitch...
So here I am on my knees holding one of two rear plate lights in my hand
WHEN IT STRUCK ME....
The DOT marking just jumped up and hit me in the eye... Yes that's right the 2 little licence plate lights under the rear TOYOTA bezzel (for lack of brtter word) have DOT lenses on them along with a hole bunch of other markings ....Go figure out of sight out of mind..
Turns out that they appeare to be the only 2 original lenes that are DOT on my truck......................

That's probably because they are the only lenses that cross over to the HD 70 series, the BJ70 of which was originally exported by Toyota to Canada. I'm guessing that whatever lenses fit the BJ70 was just marked with "DOT" even if they went to other 70 series models that were never intended for Canada. That would explain why all of my BJ74 light lenses are marked with "DOT".

about importing regulation

I am Japanese citizen and my family try to start improt car business. We recently found out that all the vehicles comes in to B.C. have to have DOT,SAE mark on the light after we purchased GT-R and 300ZX in Japan.

We contact with Nissan headquater regarding headlight and tail light lens.
The maneger in Nissan head quater said "What is thye problem with the car? GT-R is perfectly fine vehicle to drive!!"
Fortunatly we got letter from Nissan with the all the material used for parts.
Also they ask us about safty requrement for DOT, SAE ( material, thickness, etc for headlight lens) in Canada.

Because every regulation comes down to safty, not make us hard to do car business.

I believe that any inspection should go throgh with inspector's approval if the vehicle is perfectly functions and safty is fine compare to other vehicle in Canada.

Also I feel that B.C provincial start to banding our vehicles.

They seem to not care about all the businesses in the province at all.
I feel government should cosider People make living with
the importing car business.

At last,

We shall make import car comunity.
We can only do so much as individual but as community we could affect the big force such as government.
