That was really pretty good... You can skip most of the training at the beginning and just jump to when both the TOYOTA and the Dog Slead take off on the ice, that will save you about 10 min of video and lots of anoying British humor.

i cracked up when they were both holding gin and tonics while "sailing" over the ocean in "international waters".

good episode
funny and interesting

sure enough, as soon as I saw him holding that nut between his lips, I went "oh oh..."

That was good. Has anybody seen the lighter fluid bead setting trick before?

Yeah, I did that on my own truck years ago. I was crawling out of a hole in Anza Borrego, and the tire broke the beads. Someone had a can of ether and sprayed a couple of very short bursts, then laid down a short track of the stuff, tossed on a match and "poof", on it went. Very cool.

the trick is to not get too much fluid inside the tire. Otherwise it can blow it off the rim. Just a tiny bit does the trick. If not, just a tiny bit more 2nd time.

Jesus action figure with a map on the back of the box to "guide us in the hour of need" LOL, Classic British humor. Great video, thanks for posting.

Did it with brake clean on my rubicon run this year.

Funny note on that, there were two women forest rangers walking the trail who stopped to talk to us while I was trying to set the bead. I had never done it before and used way too much brake clean. When I ignited it, the flame shot out in a huge fireball and singed all of the hair off my left leg and some of the hair on my right leg and left arm. At that particular momemt one of the rangers was filling out a campfire permit for us, so we could have a fire at our camp. She saw the fireball and the first thing she asked was if I had a fire extinguisher. Which I did.

Lesson: You only need one or two little squirts of brake clean or starter fluid.

Squirts on the bead or in the tire? I saw a truck driver in Baja Sunday that was taking a break from obviously trying to mount an 18 wheeler tire and I wanted to show him the trick but I wasn't 100% sure how to do it.

You need some of the gas inside. When the gas ignites, it expands and blows the tire onto the rim.

inside the tire. The tire and wheel should be completely of the ground, so that the tire is sitting as close to it's seated position as possible.

So you put a rock or something under the rim to elevate them?

jack the truck up, just like you're changing the tire. make sure no part of the tire is touching the ground.

I would take it off. Don't want to have the truck on fire if I screw up...

On the crassly (literally) logistical side, I had never stopped to think about toilet breaks on polar expeditions... Not a pretty thought (and sight)...

several years ago there was a product called "bumper dumper" that was exactly the same thing. I kid you not. I wonder how many of those they sold.

Just for kicks, I searched Google Videos for this subject, came up with quite a few hits. Some of these idiots sprayed WAY too much, and on occasion the results were interesting, to say the least.

I had 31" tires on my Cherokee when we did this, and the guy sprayed maybe a total of 2 seconds. It did the trick.
