Anyone still making front recovery points in the US?

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I am just wondering what the correct length is for TT recovery points as you and @Ayune and @reevesci mention 50 mm but the hardware on TT says 40 mm:

Tow Point Bolts

If you want to be uber technical..... PER AISC ( American Institute of Steel Construction) the coded bolt length should be 3 threads exposed beyond the tightened nut height.

SO........ 1/2" tow point thickness (~12.7mm) + 14mm nut thickness (~12.7mm) + frame thickness (~6mm) + flat and lock washer (~2mm)

3 threads = 6mm

Well, there you go. Science!

There's lots of clearence in the frame rail for extra threads so that's why you see 40 and 50mm lengths being discussed. Note that at some length the bolt goes from "fully threaded" to "partially threaded." You want full threads for the TT points.

IMO anything beyond the 3 thread or a little more is wasted bolt. The only thing it serves is a few extra turns for it to fall/ back out if loose. All extra thread are just a source for rust to breed and gall up your capture nut when removed.

I only buy cap screws (full threaded bolt) for these. Pending the mfg, the neck of a hex bolt could be too long and not torque properly, so I prefer the full thread.

Just my .02
