Anyone knows a good Mechanic in the west suburbs?

A local shop quoted me $850 with aftermarket parts and $600 if i bring the parts which are $170 online.

We are getting closer to a reasonable price.

Sounds to me like you just found it. Let them use their parts, you don't take hamburger to McDonald's and ask them to fix you a burger, if you don't trust them to use good parts then you can't trust them to fix it.

X2

... and speaking of parts. I made my first order to Rockauto and the managed to not send 1 of two items ordered. Order was a clutch kit and a half shaft for the Celeca and got the clutch kit with a reciept for both. Not impressed.

They often ship from multiple warehouses. I have nothing but good experiences with rockauto.

My biggest complaint with them is that I don't want local parts places to go under, but they are currently building a 15th place you can get auto parts in big rapids, a town of about 14,000 residents.

I would only go OEM on those parts for any timing components/water pump.

I have replaced a cylinder head on a honda less than a year after someone replaced a timing belt because of a s***ty cheap tensioner pulley locking up and melting the belt.

Saw a aftermarket water pump leak within six months on a rx300. Would have been better leaving the original on there.

Had an endeavor come in that had jumped time because of a cheap aftermarket hydraulic tensioner that lost all of its dampening/oil.

Fxxx... I saw a cheap serpentine belt get shredded up and wrapped around the crank pulley, melted the plastic timing cover, and then the pieces of belt and melted timing cover made it into the timing belt and jumped time enough to bend valves.

Theres an old mexican saying- "when you try to save money, you end up spending more"

Werd.
I always use OEM parts where necessary.
Event though I'm an anal, overly obsessive, clinically diagnosed OCD person, it's still necessary on important stuff.

I already ordered the kit, $165 all oem parts, it's not a matter of trusting them, it's the autozone parts i don't trust.
If i can avoid a future headache and save 80 bucks in the process....
And quoting an argentine saying, "the cheap is expensive"

UPDATE...
Got the TB replaced at Midas for $595.
Took it home and was leaking coolant all over.
Took it back to the shop, the clamp on the lower radiator hose was loose, can't believe they didn't see it, it was pouring coolant.
Now i don't see any other leaks, nor the characteristic odor of coolant, however the level in the reservoir goes down about 3/4 of an inch every day.

Any thoughts? I'm about to embark on a 900 miles road trip to dallas this weekend.

PS: won't put a foot on that Midas anymore.

And thats why i fxxx my truck up on my own and i dont pay someone to do it for me.

The radiator is full all the way up to the neck.
I don;t like the idea of using the stop leak either, but i guess that being stranded in the middle of Oklahoma with the wife yelling at me is any more pleasant.

Hopefully not a head gasket. Sometimes when coolant vanishes slowly with no external leaks thats what I find.

Isnt that the expedition part in owning an expo truck?

I don't think is a head gasket, the problem started with the timing belt replacement, I'm sure they left something loose, just can't find what.

3/4 of an inch a day for how many days? 2, or over the course of a week?

Hard to tell. They did the work on friday, i went back on saturday. On sunday filled up the reservoir and check under the truck. So, since monday, driving it about 5 miles a day, it dropped about 2.5 inches.
Didn't check today yet.

Could still be purging air out of the system.

Question, red or green coolant?
