hi all
i know you all gonna laugh at me and make jokes about it, but after all that, I'll still need a good mechanic, hopefully in the Naperville area.
I need to do the timing belt on my LX470. I always did all the work myself on my cars, except for timing belts, i'm prone to screw things up, and with timing, it can turn out into a very expensive mess.
I bought the truck with 179K miles and no service history after the 67K miles mark. My assumption is that the previous owner traded it in just for that reason, because it was 1K miles right before the scheduled change.

Thanks in advance.

Bust out the FSM and figure it out. Im an idiot with a wrench in my hand and it took me a day and half to do it on the 3.4, and i saved well north of $1000 bucks doing it myself. Its not rocket science and pretty easy if you follow the instructions and buy the right tools. Probibly wont get much help regarding the mechanic recomendation based on past threads asking the same thing.

Dealer

I already saw some youtube videos and they make it look like a piece of cake, but in my case, nothing ever works out the same way....

I've done water/pump timing on 3.0's. I learned that I am happy to spend the $600 (including parts) for the dealer to do it.

The dealer was half the price of midas etc... Thomas Toyota did my 4.7 a couple years ago. ~600$ timing belt, tensioner, idler, water pump, etc...

Just called Thomas Toyota in Joliet.
They quoted me $3069 to replace the "chain".
I explained that the 4.7 engine has a belt, so he went back to the computer and quoted $1500.
I'll keep looking.

I paid naperville toyota to do my 97. Like it was said, I'll pay a few hundred more to not have to deal with that. It's not difficult as much as it is annoying.

Just called them, they will call back.

Quote timing only. Then once you have that number, ask for water pump. Sometimes the people quoting quote labor for each, not realizing it's the same labor. ..

Not sure how you managed such a quote. I've never paid more than $700

Try continental toyota in lagrange as well. I have had horrible luck with thomas, and naperville toyota can fxxx right off if their service department runs anything like trying to buy a car from them. Get ready to pay rhe inflated naperville yuppie price that they wont budge on.

I just saw that amazon offers the labor also for $350 on a Naperville shop. i'm gonna give them a call.

Their service department is actually really nice, and was one of the least expensive dealers for my 3.4 belt. Thomas toyota was the only one cheaper, but its hard for me to not stab anyone when I go there. They can fxxx off.

Continental is where we bought the camry and where all the work on it gets done (until out of warrenty in 5k miles) and no upselling on stupid s*** and a clean shop. Buying a car there is a piece of cake and minimal bs as well.

Thomas can kiss my ass.

True, nothing special about a 4.7.

Well, it's an awesome motor, but it's not like an old F motor where you need skills in the dark arts for carburetion, points and adjustable valves. Lots of mechanics have worked on a 2UZ.
