Hey guys, I got a faulty igniter and recently came across one thats different. Can one rig up a different yota igniter (79-95) to work with different yota vehicles? If so, how? Thanks!!
Anyone know if you can use different style igniters in diiferent trucks?

Try junk yard! Cross referenced the part and go looking. I got two out of a Lexus 250 I believe. It was a different part number that has changed but same unit. That car has two in it I got both for 15bucks. Don't quote me on the exact model look it up I'm just going off the top of my head
To be safe stay within the series, I would think that 85-89???should work. You definitely can't use a 22R igniter on a 22RE engine. You may want to check year/module applicability with a Toyota dealer....yeah I know that is a PITA, but you may find a parts guy that is willing to work with you.

I just looked in the LC Engineering book that I have, although they do not list a part number for the 85-88 22RE engines they have broken down igniters, they are as follows; 89-90,91-92,&93-95. With that info I would think that 85-88 would probably be the other group of MY vehicles that will be compatible.

FWIW Camry igniters and Landcruisers (93-97) were the same part # and are the same, do a parts # look up and see what the igniter #s are and compare from there

Thanks for all the response guys! So my truck is a 84 22r. The igniter is a #75 which is "supposed to be on coronas, older corollas and of course the trucks and runners. I have been looking for 3 months now and its been a dead end everywhere....
Literally no junk yards have them and all the vehicles that are supposed to have that igniter, dont. I came across a 79 20r igniter/coil for free, kinda looks like the 85-89 22re ignter/coil but is different than mine. Is it possible to re-wire it to make it work? Anyone here an electrician? Or better yet....ANYONE GOT AN IGNITER/COIL FOR SALE????

Its def the igniter cause i threw on a new coil and nothin, then rigged up a chevy igniter/coil and bam! fired right up sooo my money is on the igniter being bad. Also the correct igniter # is 89620-35140 (#75) and apparently there is a very similar igniter that will work too. Its number is 89620-14360....this one is off supras and celicas
There's pickup coils in the dizzy. Maybe by putting the Chevy stuff on you had more voltage to jump the bad pickup coils . My 2cents. I'll check those numbers tomorrow when I get back to my shop and let you know if there the same I have three so I'll send you one.

AH HA! I was leaning towards that but I wasn't sure. OK so how would i go about making sure my "dizzy" is in working order, i mean it worked fine with the chevy stuff...
Look up the specs on here and use an ohm meter . There's air gaps on the pickup coils under the cap you can check with a feeler gauge. Can't remember if they can be adjusted or not. I do know if the pickup coils are bad you have to replace the whole distributor. And BTW my ignitors are different sorry

Sweet man thanks. Hey on a side note i have a debate whether or not to use my oil pump. I spun a rod bearing and shattered my guilds. Not to mention there was fuel in the oil. Should i get a knew one or is this one cool to re-use?
