Anyone got a recommendation for tape/insulation for wires at the egr location?

Mine looks to have the factory membrane around it and I’m wanting to remove, inspect, repair and reinsulate and tape.

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

On one of my prior 80s I used a wrap from DEI, you can buy in various widths and lengths, but I know places like Sumitt Racing offer some in house products that may provide the same benefit but at a lower price point.

Here is one of many post talking about protecting the harness: Harness shield near EGR - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/harness-shield-near-egr.1274280/

If you use a search engine (google) and put IH8MUD 80 series EGR Heat it should pull up a couple pages worth of links.

I wrapped my loom with heat resistant Tesa tape and then used this specifically near the EGR.

Tesa tape is the bees knees. Also insanely abrasion resistant.

I used the @Delta VS keychains & @LC4LIFE test kit....EGR area is nice and cool all the time now!

If you are pulling your intake off to get better access to the harness, be sure to check your injector harness plugs...they crumble back on cylinders 5 and 6 from 30 years of heat.

I'm pretty sure current engine harnesses are wrapped this way now. Maybe not with these products, but certainly something like them. Toyota is nothing if not observant.

I used this exact method two weeks ago on mine!

Wrapped the harness Tesa tape then DEI heat shield with a couple stainless steel ties. It has held up for a couple years now.

FWIW there is a Toyota silicone tape, for terminating the heat wrap:

It's also in US dealer warehouse stock:

The Toyota (general) harness tape is Nitto:

unfortunately, it is not curently available from dealer stocking warehouses.

polyken 268 harness tape
How did you come across Polyken? And why 268 specifically?

I just spent several very worthwhile hours down the adhesives/sealing foam/tapes rabbit hole. Thank you ;)

I used to work at the jeep dealer a long time ago and it was required to be used on wiring related recalls that were under the hood. It's the best tape I've ever used, sticks very good but if also comes off clean without leaving a big mess, strong but also tears off clean. Holds up to heat and oil good. Costs 1/2 as much as the Toyota tape. I have not tried the other polyken tapes.
