Yes there is a difference in the 98, 99, though I don't exactly what. You can see the butterfly that fits in 00-07 trying to fit in a 98:

I'm on the fence about buying the wings and hacking the plastic to fit vs buying the FJ inserts. OR anyone buy a 00-07 cup holder section and retro that back into a 98/99? Wonder if it just clips in, or if they changed the attachment points as well?

I purchased this piece with the butterfly wings and hacked the bottom off with a Dremel tool then used 3M double sided tape to secure it in my 99. Has worked perfectly for over a year. Holds soda cans, big gas station drinks, my wife's ridiculously tall heavy ceramic coffee mug, etc. Only downside is that it can't be removed (haven't had a cup not fit so far, though) and can't close the lid (which I never did anyway.)

I got a 40oz Ozark Trail tumbler from Walmart and it fits perfectly in my early 100 cup holders. It cannot tip over because it's just too big in diameter (that's what she said). Paired it with the mug style handle and a stainless straw, I'm GTG.

Is there a vendor that makes a plate that drops in on top of the cupholder, to essentially make it taller? I know there is a guy that made a similar product for the GX470 and it works good. If anyone interested, I can probably put it together. Basically the same thing as this.... Home

I'm working on 3d printing a converter that holds the wings from the newer vehicles. It should hopefully replace the clay monstrosity I made earlier. I'm still working on getting the dimensions right at the moment.

Good deal. I'll see if I can sort out a drop on plate and see how it works. The little extra height works good for GX470, maybe it would for LX / 100 series. Does anyone know if the general shape of the cupholder assembly is the same for LX, LC for 1998-2007?

My drink tipped over ladt week and I decided to make a cup holder upgrade.
Here is the finished solution.

Sorry for the double post. I bought 2 PVC fittings from Home Depot. Used a Dremel tool to notch each fitting so it fit nicely in the cup holders. Then clamped the two fittings tight to each other and used some black for in place gasket RTV to glue the fittings together. After the RTV was cured I used some flat black trim paint. Works great. Here are some pictures.

I noticed that the cupholders in my first '99 LX were slightly smaller than they are in my new '99. Does anyone know if there was a liner, or something along those lines offered in '99? Was there a design change mid '99? Our first one also had a one-piece plastic divider which simply dropped in place, and there's nothing like that in the new one. Any thoughts?? Thanks!!

My 1999 LC has a center divider inbetween the two spaces for the cups. The cup holders would be completely useless without this.
