Not sure yet... I will probably sell the drive train first since it's 100% roadworthy and either sell the balance or just hack it up and sell off the parts since it appears the title is more or less garbage. I need to recoup everything i can since I am taking it in the teeth on this monumental mess.

If they won't even issue a salvage title so I can scrap it all together, I will have to haul to a junk yard that is a licensed DMV wrecker that can certify the vehicle is truly gone and not operable. Otherwise according to a legal rep that handles this sort of thing, my neck will be on the chopping block for all future dmv fees/fines that will be accumulated. So either way it appears I am up the creek and nowhere to go.

One more try next week then either I will have the title or look for me on the nightly news.

Wait, wait, wait. Did you ever meet with a state trooper for a genuine VIN inspection? Their word can fix a lot of issues...

Right now its a round a round treadmill of pointing fingers... State police won't do the inspection unless they are directed by the DMV with the appropriate paperwork to file. And that can't happen unless the DMV provides the forms to do that.
The Troopers suggested trying another DMV location but unfortunately can't move forward unless they get the forms and authorization from the DMV.

Going to try a diffrent office on Wednesday or Thursday and see where I get. I've been driving her around a bit by my home and a real bummer this may be one of the last few times I drive her. I'm not at all looking forward to the alternative that's for sure.

Man I wish you luck, this just doesn't seem right. Somebody should be able to straighten it out, maybe a lawyer (hate saying that word), but they might know what strings to pull.

When I had a problem with a VIN, I went to the State Patrol and explained my situation. Troopers had a form present, inspected, and filled in the form. I think there was a nominal fee. Then I was on my way...

I made sure to dress in a presentable fashion and was polite and patient. The Trooper was very cool and helpful. Sometimes you just have to go there and talk...

Might try that too.... But the Troopers here in Oregon changed their policy recently so you can no longer approach them first. (Someones great idea to be sure) So the troopers are putting the action squarely on the tiny shoulders of the dmv.

The person I talked too wouldn't even give me a location to go too unless I had the right forms...

Lawyer I loosely checked into said 50/50 chance. If this was a 10 million sports car-Sure makes sense. But the thousands I pay won't guarantee the result I want. I don't have that kind of extra money anyway. And right now the knot in my stomach is just getting worse.
Nobody seems too interested in dealing with another crappy taxpayer like myself.

If it's on me to either push hard and face getting what I want or getting thrown out of the dmv or the nearest troopers station. Once this happens of course they can impound my pig and that's it - Game Over.

Total waste of time and energy on something that should be strait forward and simple to fix. I don't care how long it takes, as long as things are moving in the right direction. As it stands, this perfectly good pig is destined to be blown apart in million pieces.

Bring it over to Idaho. Seriously In 10 minutes we could get you an application to title. VIN inspection, phone call to the state VIN spector, etc... Oregon is stupid. Idaho will take you tax money.

Interesting idea gents. Idaho is certainly closer to me for sure. I'll call Idaho dmv in the am and see what they would do for a out of state person like myself if I go there with my pig and Cali title. Probably closer to drive too. South east would work but just too far away for me to go cross country with no gurentee.

Thanks all.

find a wrecker with an intact vin... I call it a patch panel for the frame... and get the door tag and engine bay tag too...

Idaho you technically have to be a resident but you don't have to have an ID driver's license, just a physical address. I live in a military town so the local DMV is used to strange stuff and people from all over the place registering vehicles from all over. You'll never see CA plates around here, the rest of the states and even Puerto Rico and Guam but never CA plates. Their plates are so expensive and insurance is so high that is the first thing they do is dump their CA plates unless they are really proud to be from CA. Alaska is probably the most kept non-Idaho plate in Idaho.

******* RESOLVED ********
4th time the charm. found someone who sorta understood and agreed to vin update and title correction. Unbelievable that just finding the right person to move things along was all it took. I'll be happy when I get the physical paper title, A lot of worry and frustration finally moving behind me.
