Hey everybody,

I just moved out to Boulder, CO for work from North Carolina, so I obviously do not have local knowledge when it comes to getting my LC serviced, or worked on out here.

Would love any advice or suggestions on some local shops, or trustworthy dealerships.

Prefer to use a shop, so that I actually have the same person/crew working on my car over time, so that I can build a relationship, as well as support a small business owner, rather than anonymously dropping my car off at a dealer so that they can lay a fat bill on me the next day.

Having said that, if you feel like there is a dealership that provides great service and fair prices, then by all means, please share. Maybe they do exist!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Right down highway 93 in Golden is Slee Off Road

Yup. Slee it is.

2 recommendations - Slee is the obvious choice as it's one of the, if not the, premier LC shop in the US. The other is Robbie at Adventure Off Road located in Boulder right by the Toyota dealership. I've had him do a few things on my old 100, and I know lots of guys in Rising Sun use him too: Adventure Offroad - Rising Sun Member Forums.

No offense to Christo's operation, but you're in Boulder, as is the foremost authority on all mechanical things Cruiser, being Robbie Antonson.

I'm nowhere close to Boulder, yet a third major mechical project will be headed to Robbie's on Sunday.

If he moved to Australia, I'd figure out a way to get to him.

Edited: in the off chance your tribulations require an uber built 1FZ, I've one at Robbie's shop ready to go, that may not have a purpose.

I've always thought of Slee as a modification specialist...rather than a routine maint. shop...though if they can convert an IFS 100 series into a standard axle beast that was the Blueberry...they are capable of anything.

That's because Christo's a smart businessman that knows what fiscal viability means and how to maintain, by diversifying with inventory of brand name products and appealing to the upper echelon crowd's desires for the extreme.

While the blanket 'modification specialist' label may include UZJ80s, SAS'ing 100s, or any other of the incredibly challenging mechanical transformations that Slee Off-road has accomplished and notorious, it doesn't reflect the extremely talented team that Slee's comprised of.

Robbie's mechanically inclined, from the mundane to the insane, a craftsman unlike any other that bridges all gaps in between. The simple fact the OP is in Boulder is the thread ender, because it's possible to build a relationship with an esteemed local shop, one with two guys that have forgotten more about Cruisers than most will ever know.

Even though we don't really advertise our mechanical side, we have a crew that is capable of anything. We do specialize in later model vehicles, so we are probably not the mechanics shop for the FJ60's and earlier.

Joe, or shop manager is both Lexus and Toyota master trained, and a wiring ninja. Nick is Toyota trained and apprenticed under Joe. Brian came to us from Iowa where he worked in a speed shop setting up 10+ differentials per day, so we have that covered.

As for 200 series, I would argue that we probably build and maintain more of those than any other shop in the country.

Just a little bit about us. Maybe if I get this new website done, we will include bio's of the people and a little more on what capabilites we have in house.

If ever there was a shop I trust without ANY reservation, it's Slee. I'm quite far away in San Diego, but I actually postpone significant mods so that I can get to Golden, CO where I know they'll be done well.

Hey Amory (or Christo), if you want a good lead on a website designer, let me know. I know a guy that does outstanding work and he's reasonably priced. He just re-built my company website.

@sleeoffroad just did my 40k service even though I have extended ToyotaCare. Much more thorough than the Toyota dealership and they know how to put all my "stuff" back together and not losing bolts for my skid plates and bumper.... more money but worth the peace of mind and done right.

Thanks to all for the replies! Will be sure to keep Slee & Adventure on my list as great options for quality work.. Much appreciated!

I rest my case.....

with an admission of guilt:

I had no clue this was the 200 forum, wouldn't have uttered a breath had I realized.

I have
I rest my case.....

Frankly, I never quite figured out what case you were trying to make...

That aside... Slee is a world-class shop with a well-deserved, stellar reputation.

That 'vintage' maintenance and/or restoration aren't the bread and butter on Slee's table, which is a wise, because retail sales and late model 'mods' are more lucrative.

The same vintage Cruisers ARE what fuels Robbie's endeavors.

As I said, I erred and commented, unintentionally, in the one forum that none is relevant, nor have I any place, as the newest vehicle I drive is a '97.

I lived in Las Vegas and drove from Las Vegas to slee's place in golden to have him do my old man emu lift and rock sliders and I'll kinds of maintenance just cause Slee is that good was very happy I did that!! I now live in Austin but I'll drive back to Golden when it's time to do my next timing belt water pump and other items.

Both Slee and Robbie are good friends. Those are the only two place I take my Cruisers. Slee's lead Mechanic Joe is awesome.

I would build a relationship with both of them. Robbie is a one man shop and can be hard to get into and thats because his reputation and work ethic are well deserved. Slee would be better if you decide to modify your truck as its one stop shopping.

Both have talked me out of spending money on something after asking me a few questions about why I want it. Thats whatyou want in a shop someone who won't just take your money.

I don't have any experience with Robbie, but I've gone to Slee a handful of times for parts and all have been positive experiences.
