Anti- Theft Ideas....Not alarms!

I purchased one of the AutoLock antitheft devices that attaches to the clutch/brake pedal. I feel this is a big deterrant to someone trying to rip it off.

I want to get an alarm as well to stop someone from breaking in and taking my stereo and/or gear when skiing.

I just inherited my Land Bucket and it won't start without a shot of Gumout, so I just plan on locking my can of Gumout in a Tuffy console. I guess I'll have to rethink my security setup once I fix the carb.

My dad used to have an old army surplus blazer he drove to work, that someone lost the key on. (they were all keyed the same anyway, so anyone with an army surplus blazer could open anyone else's) He drove that thing for years to work. (You don't want to drive nice cars to work at a paper mill, the caustics in the air from the pulping process will destroy the piant over time)

Anyway, he took a huge chunk of steel chain, a huge, military grade padlock, and wrapped the chain around the brake pedal and ran over and attached it to a steel bail welded to the floor under the seat.

Simple, cheap, and effective.

I had this thought the other day and is used on Fueler trucks. The idea is to put a swich near the rear bumper struts if the land cruiser has them. Install the switch in a way that if the rear bumper is bumped from behind it will kill power to the edac in the engine compartment.

If your LC is stolen tell the police that the way to kill the vehicle is a slight bump from behind.

A friend of mine had a ford Ranger and it had a factory fuel cut off switch on the pass side kick panel, we hit a bump to hard and the truck died. I am not sure if this ideal would be great for a LC for tend to ride rough anyway.

This would work if you switch a plug wire and coil on the cap, It was a favorite trick I would pull in H.S. the car fires on one cyl and you think it going to start and keep trying, After the car was left I would come back and swtich it back.

We would take long zip ties and put them on the drive shaft, it creates an anoying ting ting ting sound while you drive. It's a great trick.

I had a buddy run wire form his ignition,to the cigarrette lighter, then back to ignition. To start truck with key you had to push lighter in turn key & drive.....i thought that was pretty cool

whoa, that's a big gun

My dog kills a skunk about once a month in my yard. Dog then tries to quickly eat skunk before I run out and scream at him. If you want, I'll give you my dog. You can keep him in your truck and feed him skunks.

Forgive me if this has been said but if you'd like to catch the thief, rather than scare him off, a baby monitor works pretty well as long as you are in a relatively quiet neighborhood. You can definitly tell if someone is breaking in, even trying the door handles is quite loud. (loud enough to wake me up).

Once you catch him, in Canada we must immediately deliver him to the nearest peace officer. I figure to do that with my forklift, hanging by his shakled ankles. The cop shop is only a couple of blocks away.

We are talking about our babies here after all.
What is the range on those things?

Depends on the baby monitor. Mine picks up noises about 35-40m away from the truck. Not too sure how far the 2 pieces of the baby monitor can be apart.

Here's another one of my theft deterrents, a mechanical pedal lock that keeps the clutch and brake pedals from being depressed. Easy to get in and out, I do it with one hand, without thinking (been doing it every day for 15 years).

And to follow what others have pointed out, a Beretta 92FS Centurion with 15+1 Cor-Bon loads should be the ultimate theft deterrent!

Where's this mount? And where do we get one? Not that I'll have a clutch pedal any longer.
