Another poor mpg thread.

45 to 55mph is the sweet spot for good mileage. I live outside the city and when I do get near the city most of the roads are 45mph. If I get caught at a light I use brisk acceleration(quicker than 90% of Oregonians but less than wot) to minimize my time at lower speeds.

whooooaaaa I didn't know what a "K5 Blazer" is and I google it. That is a really cool truck !!!!!!!. what is the engine in that thing? Also I see you are a Bayern fan....!!!!???? talk to me ????!!!!!

1985, plain 350, converted from carb to TBI, 37 Toyos, 1-ton running gear. 31 gallon gas tank... :)

And I'm from Bavaria. So, naturally, I support the FC Bayern...

The SC'ed 80 here in Baton Rouge gets 10-12mpg (corrected for the 315s); the SC'ed LX450 on 315s in AZ gets 11-13.

THAT is a really cool truck !!!!!

I'm not from Bavaria but I'm Bayern fan since......welllll....since before I developed eyes !!!! My daughter and my son as well are huge Bayern fans....We spent some time last summer in Munich and few other places in Germany and Poland and visited the Alianz arena and got some autographs.....unfortunately none from Neuer or other big names but we got from Ulreich, Badstuber and Alaba....!!!!!!!

So I'm roughly in the same ballpark.....good to know...but unfortunately this doesn't change anything.....I still find the range totally ridiculous and for me personal there are waaaayy better other choices for going off-road than the LX especially when I need to carry the seadoos and snowmobiles and dirt bikes around.....

:meh:

I curently get 10 mpg on my 96 FJZ80, in country daily driving

Searched around for a faq on fuel consuption or efficiency modifications.
Anyone got a good ressource? Or i'm i just fantasizing.. ;)

Fuel consumption can be affected by multiple things. The first suspect is engine efficiency, is it running good? Second would be drive train. Good bearings and no dragging brakes. Third is tires, are the over sized with stock gearing, what pressure are you running in them? Increasing the tire pressure from 32psi to 40psi(provided your tires can operate at higher pressures) can gain 1-2mpg depending on tire size and design. Forth is driving style, 45-55mph is the range where vehicles get their best mileage. If possible minimize time below 40mph, allow extra space between yourself and the car in front of you to minimize braking and accelerating.

Engine runs well, but a little uneven at times, i will check the air, plugs and rotor for possible damage.

Tires are a bit taller, just a bit and thinner also.

I drive it like my mother would but at good average.

I love these threads! Being a decadent American I take pride in my cruiser only getting 11MPG, and if I got less, I'd be AOK with that. If you wanted great gas mileage, you should have bought a Prius, or, get one of those cool stickers that say Hybrid Drive and put it on the back of your cruiser. I hear that gets you another 20MPG. Didn't work for me, but I put the sticker on anyways. I love it when people say "Is that really an electric / gas vehicle?" My response, yep, better MPG than a Prius. Ignorance is bliss.

Drive it like you stole it and when it's empty, fill'er'up.

The only reason I think about MPG is to try to get it to be running as well as possible. Whether I get 10 or 11 MPG doesn't make a hill of beans difference. Hell, if I added up all the miles I've put on my cruisers over the past 24 years I bet it is 350-400k miles. Obviously, MPG isn't a major concern...

Could've had another house instead of sleeping inside the cruiser. :slap:

Your kids would have picked a better retirement home for you in that case, but now... Well, you'll get to sleep in your 80.
Hey, my 80 is my retirement home.

I didnt want a Prius i can assure you, myself i take pride of wheeling old Landcruisers instead of buying new cars all the time, aside from gaz consuption, the footprint is a lot less then those new plastic/tech models/change every 4-5 years things. My new truck is 20 year old and my other one is 32. Nothing beats that.

I only wanted to check if i could save somehow on the $

But will be on the lookout for a diesel if ever one happens to be too good to miss.

Edit: oh.. And will be very interested if ever electric kits come available.. Somewhat like the flying kits from Back to the future :). Might get that sticker until then ..

Whats the correction on 315s on mileage? I showed 11.1 MPG yesterday (rough estimate based on trip counter) And I was going really fast the speed limit, fully loaded and dragging a roof top tent. 11.1 didn't seem right to me. combo of freeway driving and coming out of the mountains.

Im not sure the correction but on a recent 4500 mile adventure, I counted mileage markers.. My speedometer at 55 mph is exact with my GPS and at 65 mph the speedo is 5 slow, so I will be doing 70 mph actually. I have 285 75 16 BFG ko2's and run 40 psi of southern Missouri air. Counting the mileage markers and watching my tripmeter, I would count 10 markers to every 9 tenth's on the tripmeter. I did this for a long time. So in my case, I was going 100 miles actual compared to my trip meter showing 90 miles. 20 extra miles for every 200 miles. I was getting aprox. 1 mpg better than my tripmeter was showing.
I your case with the 315 you will be going farther than I was per milage markers/tripmeter low tech approach.

315s are about 10% over stock. So you were getting about 12mph.
