Try my 31 year old K5 Blazer on the trail for a day or two, and you'll like the fuel economy of your LX a lot more...
In the rocks, the K5 likes about 1 gallon per hour.

As I said.... it is not the mpg per say that bothers me it is the off road range that is a show stopper for me.... Could that SC making the mpg so bad?

I have a feeling your version of "cheap" and the rest of us with knowledge of these vehicles version are two different things. GLWS!

You said you had 295 16 KO2's which I assume are 75 series. Gearing down to 4.88 will help your low speed/offroad mileage significantly. My Bronco(Ford version of the K5 blazer) went from 6mpg average city to over 10mpg city when I re-geared from 3.55 to 4.56. I had increased my tires from stock of 29.5" to 35". You will lose some mileage at speeds over 65mph but more than make up for it on low speed and acceleration.
I'll gladly buy that fuel sucking super charger from you. Maybe it will cure my high mpg issues.

Right now we know a pocket full of change worth of information about the rig. The more details we know about it and pictures to show us the more valuable the rig will be.
I really, really don't have the time or the patience to do that...(too busy having fan...???!!!) and I would rather spend my money on customizing a newer truck, a Taco or the upcoming Colorado ZR2 diesel.....

when/if the time comes I will definitely put out as much info (with the money spent on parts and labor) and pics of the vehicle as possible...
I would only be looking in recouping the money invested...and if that's not possible I will junk the vehicle and move ahead....simple as that.....

If you time it right you end up with no passengers. Therefore less weight and your choice of music.I just have to figure out how to harness the energy!
So. To add input to this thread (?) I just checked my mileage/gas use records. 11-13mpg. Almost no matter what.
I have a big hill to climb to get to my camping/wheeling/skiing spots, so that has an impact. So depending on when and where I fill up/calculate makes a bit of difference. And how loaded down the truck is: 300 miles to Pismo and back last month, ~12-13. Various trips up into the Sierra this summer, 10-12. A month of random city driving, 11-13. Rubicon, 7, including to/from mileage. Last year's camping trip to Baja, fully loaded, piled-high roof rack, 4 people, 12 on the interstate, 10 maybe off-pavement (my litres-to-gallons calcs might be off, but I doubt it). Soon they're going to start selling the "winter blend" here, which is going to cut my mileage a bit.
One time I had to drive I5 north into a wicked headwind. I got like 8mpg. That hurt.
None of this is really anything I actually worry about very much.

I'm a solid 11-13 mpg in town or on the highway too. I one time drove from Moab to Flagstaff on a single tank of gas. The low fuel light came on just a few miles outside of town. I think I calculated it as 15.5 mpg. I have never come close to that ever again. I've gone as low as 5 mpg wheeling, but that doesn't count.
10% overdrive/correction with 35s. And I drive like a grandma. Unless I'm in a hurry.
