YEP ya gotta move air across the coil to get it to cool. Otherwise it just lays there and sweats! :D Just did one today with that problem.

Joel,

Yes it was not OEM. usually I only use OEM parts, but I was in a hurry and wanted to get this truck back on the road, and it was a Sunday. I'll change it out someday, but It's working fine so I'll just leave it be for now.

I hear you, just wanted to make sure you knew about the potential problem in advance in case it hits you

Working on the A/C again today.

Michelle was still complaining that the A/C was not cooling well late in the day driving from the parking garage to home. She sits in stop and go traffic for about 10 miles, but that 10 miles can take 30 minutes.

So, on the recommendation of my A/C guy - I installed a 10 inch fan in front of the A/C condenser to keep the air flowing across it during around town driving. I wired it to a relay and fuse. I just tapped the hot lead coming off the fan clutch. I might put a kill switch in the dash, or a thermal switch, but this was quick and dirty.

I also played with the A/C R134a levels, and here is where I came out today.

Low Side - 25
High Side - 225

Ambient Temperature - 95 degrees today!

Vent temperature 48 to 50 degrees:bounce:

Engine Idle around 1800 RPM

If I add any more R134a, the Vent temperature goes up, so I think
I've found the magic balance for this truck.

I have not taken it for a test drive yet - these where reading from my driveway with the hand throttle to get it to 1800 RPM. I'll drive it around Monday and report back. ;)

glad you seem to have got it down, A/c down here is priceless.

austinbear, may want to try throwing in some redline mt-90 in the tranny.. made mine easier to shift. Mine was new and it shifts like $hit too.

Some goodies for the seat

Next week the truck is headed to the detail shop for a carpet shampoo, and a full detail.

So I decided to go ahead and buy some SOR seat covers, and floor mats. Of course I could not stop there - so I put on a wheelskin steering wheel cover, and ordered a VPN center console like I had on my last FJ62. It's nice to have real cup holders. :)

Do you loose the heater core (or operation of the valve) with that console? How's the height for an arm-rest?

I was just thinking wheelskin myself a minute ago.......

No you don't loose the heater core. On my Last FJ62 I made up some brackets, and it was rock solid. On Michelle truck - I just took the OEM console out and place this on the heater box. It uses the two screw holes that the OEM box uses in the rear, and the one screw hole that the Square cup holder uses in the front.

The height of the arm-rest is perfect - that is why I love this VDN box.

Spook has a good write up here, and you can see from his pictures how the tuffy or my VDP box sits on the heater box.

Thx....

A very fine rig you got there!!! I am sure the new owner of Belle will be very happy! Wonder if the Coyote seen that rocket coming??

Yeah - Michelle is very excited about the new truck - it's 8:57pm here and she just found a excuse to go "drive" to the store for milk. ;)
