Vinyl

So, I didn't get to work on the cruiser today, but went to the fabric store with the :princess: and came up with some vinyl for the door and cargo panels.

I got 5 yds of vinyl and 1 1/2 yds of 1/4" foam/ headliner for backing for 26 bucks...She found them in the remnants/returns section. The wife is a pretty good seamstress and is willing to give the panels a whirl.

Wow compared to the cruiser that I just went and looked at yesterday your drivers seat looks brand new...

Rest of the cruiser was not in much better shape, power steering pump was leaking all over, springs were flat, paint was faded and chipping all over, knuckles were oozing like crazy. Drove nice and straight, no clutch issues that I could find or engine issues (other than needing a tune-up)... you could have all that for a meer $2200!

Yeah I was amazed when I called the guy (used dealership so go figure) and he said it was a "project truck" but was in good shape. Funniest thing was that it literally had 4 different tires on it, still the original rims but all different tires. Since he just put it on the lot I figure I will wait a while, check back here and there, and if it is still there in a couple months I will low ball him.

Just keep watching Greg, the right one for you will be found sooner or later.

I have seen some real GEMS but I like em all.. THEY ALL NEED SAVING IMO!

Very much agree!!

Sliders done

Got the sliders finalized today. Yes, I'm going back to the welded to frame approach. Hopefully in the near future after I finish up body work and paint I will get these on.

2x2x 1/4" square tubing, 1 3/8" x .217 wall pipe, 1/4" x 4" mounting plates for frame welding. They are stout and should take plenty of abuse.

Welded a little on the rear bumper swing outs as well. Need my hinges from IPOR to show up and will get that done too. Suppose to be here this coming week. :grinpimp:

I really like those sliders, particularly the large loops on the tubing at the rear of them. Again, nice work.

By the way, does your wife have a sister?

IPOR & Cargo Sliders

Got some items today... IPOR spindles to replace out my mock up hinges for the rear bumper and a set of C.L. Laurence sliding windows for the cargo area. These are the flat style, not curved. I'll call my glass guy and see what it's gonna take to fit up.. I'm think some straightening of the pinch weld.

Got to visit with my glass guy today and he said I need to remove the curve from the pinch weld to make the sliding windows seal really well and eliminate the chance for a leak and putting a huge amount of butyl rubber between the two pieces.

So, after more discussion with him, I plan on flattening the pinch weld out with a 2 x 4 and whatever hammer works the best. I have several to choose from... Basic concept is to make the windows sit in the window opening without any wobble or "pushout" as he called it.

Will try and get this done by the end of the week along with welding out the rear bumper.

Alti/Tilt panel from the local wrecking yard from a Forerunner, Blue Sea power points and an auxiliary fuse block, 100 amp circuit breaker for the cargo area, and a couple rocker switches to run some 100 watt lights I ordered off Ebay that are MIA at the moment & cheap, but if they break I wont care too much.
