Your output shaft should measure 5.5 inches away from the lip of the adapter I marked in red, which I believe is probably 1.5 to 2 inches in depth. So if you are going to try it, the output shaft with the tail cone removed should measure somewhere around 7 - 7.5 probably. Everything I have read about getting a 4wd tranny to work with this adapter says that you need to replace the output shaft of the tranny with a 2wd shaft, which means opening the tranny to replace it and is something I would not recommend myself. I would take that tranny to a junk yard and swap them for a 2wd version.

So If I have 7" of shaft (hehe) then Id be good to go. Other wise I'll have to swap output shafts in the tranny to the 2wd version. Correct? Why would the dud at AA tell me otherwise? I'm gonna call them back.

Yes, you would need to swap shafts if yours is not long enough, or if the splines are the same. I'm sure if a 4wd shaft worked then all their instructions wouldn't say you need a 2wd tranny and you would have heard of someone doing it, but I haven't, so the guy was just selling you bad info I think.

Cool thanks. I just measures.. its baout 4.5" so no bueno. The guy I bought this gear from told me of a transmission shop that will swap the output on 4wd to 2wd since they need 4wd shafts (for conversions I'm assuming). He said they'll do it for free. Hope thats the case, otherwise I might as well sell this tranny and get a 2wd version.

Damn AA tech had my hopes up... :bang:

FYI, your garage in that pic looks alot like mine right now :)

swapping the output shaft isn't hard. I'd probably still have a shop do it if your not comfortable but it should be pretty cheap at any shop. If you know this transmission is good I would defiantly swap it before I got a different unknown transmission.

What messurement are you referring to sir? What reference is used in theses "mesurements" Can I use the frame? Is it symetrical?

Thanks

PS. my pops always said measure twice cut once...

Measure, measure, measure, measure, measure, measure, measure, measure, measure, measure, measure, measure, cut. Then measure again.

orangefj45 confirmed with me that a 4wd tranny will work with the AA kit (he sells them). Apparently the AA kit comes with the correct output shaft that is swapped in.... so the tech was right.

Cool engine swap, but I love your mexican blanket seat covers. We need more pics!

Maybe it is a different kit tham I got as I know my kit did not come with a replacement output shaft. I guess if they're saying it works then give it a shot.

Hope you dont mind Georg... Maybe you can make this clear. The AA kit DOES come with a new output shaft that works in a 4wd 4l60e?

From conversation with orangefj45:

Me: "Really quickly... I have the 4x4 4l60e. Do i have to have the 2wd output shaft swapped in to run the AA adapter?"

Orangefj45: "the adapter includes a new output shaft for the 4l60-e that has to be swapped in.
georg"

Me: "Thats what AA told me when I called them. So basically the only thing to change on the tranny is the output shaft? Why does AA have "for exclusive use on 2wd 4l60e" in thier description?"

Orangefj45: "their website could do with some proof reading......
georg"

They must throw it in if you need it. When I ordered mine it did not come with one. I had a 2wd transmission and they new it when I ordered mine so i imagine they just left it out. Mine was the kit for the pre 97 4l60e but the only difference as far as I know is the adapter to go 6-4 bolts

correct.

if you call aa, talk to matthew, vic, stan, steve or gino. they can put together adapyter packages according to your needs. just because the website does'nt show the "exact' kit you need, does'nt mean they do not offer it or the components to put the proper kit together.

This is the kit we are talking about right?

(P/N 50-0408A) | Advance Adapters

that kit does not come with the transmission output shaft and requires a 2wd trans iirc.
please pm me with the specifics on your trans and i'll get you a quote and the part # for the proper kit you'll need. i know we already went thru this once but i'd rather confirm that we have everything right vs getting something that won't work for your application.

also if yours is CV front it wont clear the trans ... and even after I made a new shaft and flipped the slip to the top to clear ... it still hit the trans pan:bang:
