Ambulance door first time hanging

I’m working to install a hardtop on my bj41. Top and front doors are pretty straight forward. My rig currently has the drop tailgate and no factory holes for the lower ambulance door hinges. It dose have the backing plate inside where the tail gate latch mounts attach to the tub. What advice does anyone have on drilling and installing these doors for the first time on this rig ? I’m guessing a through bolt? Thanks

The stock fastners are caged nuts so you can adjust the hinge. Really they are caged flat stock drilled and tapped. I think McMaster Carr sells single caged nuts. They wouldn't be that difficult to make up. What are you going to do with the drop down tailgate?

Need to see a picture of you rear door opening. BJ41 is a JDM vehicle. In the US while we still got a tailgate they fit against the back of the tub. Ambulance doors fit flush with tub. Unless the tub is notched so your tailgate fits flush you have more problems than hinges.

Going by the two BJ41 available for 1980 model it looks to have had two soft top models with two piece ambulance doors. Model would be BJ41-KCY or BJ41-KCJY. Difference is the J had a roll bar. If was originally a hard top model would be BJ41V-KJ or BJ41V-KCY. kY was barn door and hatch. KCJ had hard ambulance doors.
By these picture you posted it does not appear you have a KCY which is the only model that had the tub made for hard ambulance doors.

I'm amazed at the knowledge on this site. Thank you! The original VIN plate just has model: K-BJ4 - 1V-KCY. With that, what issues might I have installing a hard top and ambulance doors. From one of the pictures above you can see the lower striker catch for the doors. In my mind, I think I will just need to drill holes in the tub for the lower hinges, but I don't want to go drilling holes until I'm certain. Thanks again for any guidance anyone can provide.

If the model is BJ41V KCY it was originally a hard top with ambulance doors. FJ41V-KY would be a hard top with barn doors and a hatch.

With the bed liner it's most.likely frozen you get the ambulance doors and correct top I would work to get the bed liner out. Once that done would use that a pattern to carefully drill thru the tub using a smaller bit and be sure not to damage the thread in the plate.

That's what I assumed. My plan is to get the hard top installed and hang the ambulance doors by the top hinges (Hard top) and then align doors. Once aligned secure doors (tape etc). Mark lower hinge drill hole locations. I will use through bolts with a washer on the back. Do the lower hinges need a gasket between the hinge and metal tub? Does that seem logical?
