Looking to keep my cats from getting mongo'd out on the streets of NYC. Can anyone recommend a source? Someone mentioned a guy who makes them to order in NC. But i am looking for probably more skid plates than just a simple cat cover for 400 bucks.

There's a couple threads and more beyond those two.

Remember that covering up your cats creates a heat management problem. They’re designed to have open air flow.

I think it's non-issue for most people. The asphalt can be super hot itself. The cat wants to be hot. The carpet is not burning. Transmission is not overheating, even towing. Toyota dealerships sell cat protection shields for certain models. Mine have been on for 15+ years.

IMO it may lead to fuel boiling.

Hello fdmarshal,
Since these are relatively limited production vehicles, anything custom specifically for a LC or LX, like skid plates or cat guards, is going to be expensive.
Aftermarket development / production isn't cheap and can only be spread over a limited number of sales.

If you have an LX470, and still have AHC, I suggest putting it in Low every time you park in a sketchy place.
The lower it is, the harder it is to get under it, and the harder it is to cut in limited space.
Lifting a LC or LX, while it may look excellent, just makes it easier to steal the Cats...

You could also opt for something like this.

It's a deterrent.
Just like the steering wheel clubs / locks people used to use.
The thief would see it and just move on to something easier.

Or you could buy a Tesla.
No Cats to steal :)

Good luck with your search / decision.
Tom

 ...because that would certainly be cheaper than even paying someone several hundred $/hour to custom fabricate something
