Nice!

I did the inaugural oil change today at 1,405 miles. I was going to wait until 2,500, but we'll be on a roadtrip when that milestone is reached...

Anyway, without the use of ramps or a jack:

I swapped out the factory drain plug for a Fumoto valve and swapped out the factory plastic oil filter cap for the aluminum one.

I used the ASR Toyota Special Oil Filter Wrench, which I had learned about on the Tundra website -- worked great. The inner tube was not a problem to switch over (no tools needed), but the oil drain bolt was stuck on the plastic cap and took a little tinkering to get it off (would have gone a lot quicker if I had access to a vise, but I digress). Oiled the gaskets and threads on the filter cap before installing with a TRD filter and AMSOIL 0W-20 Signature Series to spec. Put antiseize on the skid plate bolts before reinstalling and now it's ready to rock n roll...

My sister in law called me last night in the 4th quarter of the super bowl telling me her Lexus RX350 was making a strange noise at start up. I told her to shut it off and wait for me. When I got there I discovered a huge pool of oil under her car. Turned out the oil filter housing is cracked. Ugh. Calling Lexus they no longer make the plastic part and have replaced it with a metal component.
I'm PMing you to send me the parts I need to convert to metal components for my truck. Thx Bud.

Let me know what you come up with. I'll do the upgrade.

I just had to chisel a plastic housing out of my dads highlander due to the oil change monkeys at priority Toyota putting it on too tight and just ordered a metal one. I was fortunate I had the plastic one out of my 200 to get him up the road but that car had 60k miles in it and the plastic disintegrated.

Sorry to bump this super old thread but is this still an upgrade that should be done? just curious. My truck is still CPO and I've been getting free oil changes so i haven't done it yet but i will be soon. I looked and my oil filter housing is black, I assume thats the plastic one from what i am seeing.

Yes, you have the plastic unit. The aluminum piece is far more durable... and if you want to go a few steps beyond that, I offer a billet aluminum piece with six point socket and optional EZ drain. I suggest you perform an oil change or two and see what you think about the stock plastic piece.

Just did my first oil change after buying this LC a couple months ago. PITA is to put it lightly. Skid plates off, had to cut down my 67/65 cartridge wrench to get enough bite but even that wouldn’t help. I see that most say it takes a 64 mm, which I couldn’t find anywhere in town, but the 65 when cut did fit nicely. Didn’t matter. Whoever put that on before me had super human strength or repeated heating and cooling fused that sucker on. After a few taps to no avail I had to destroy that housing to get it off. Now I am stuck in the middle of the garage until new housing arrives. Could be a week until it gets here as I am in PV, Mexico. Not always everything at hand. I hope the Toyota Part # 15620-31060 fits properly and avoids this problem in the future.

Last time we spoke you where considering a replacement for the GX to be able to install a bigger filter like the 5.7 Tundra. Any luck ?

Sound like Mexico could use an Autozone.
5 minutes down the road. But again...a bit limited with what they have in stock.

Bringing this back to the top as worth upgrading. I just did my 20k oil change and the plastic oil cap was put to tight by the dealer during the free oil change. Trying to take it off, the plastic cracked under the pressure and started to leak remaining oil. Glad that already had the aluminum replacement as was planning to do the upgrade and all I had to do is replace the insides from broken one. BTW no need to bend over tabs. Just angle the tube and it will come off and back on.

I just did my first oil change on used 2016 with 15Kmiles. I broke the plastic cap getting it off. I purchased an aluminum cap from O'Riley Auto parts and had no issue with installing it. In 5K more miles I will provide and update on how this is working out for me. I oiled the threads and O Ring with Mobil 1 0-20W prior to installing it.
Note the Cap I purchased came with 3 inner tube sizes the longest one matched up with factory cap so I installed that one. The Motivx cap removal tool worked fine with the new cap. The new cap was made by Dorman.

Thanks for posting this up gents. Just bought an 11 LC with 94K miles on it (just getting broken in). I love this rig and planned on doing an oil change over the weekend. I think I'll delay it and order these parts first.

I can't believe I'm hearing this happen on some fairly new lc'... My bro has the plastic one and it been there for the last 100k but no problems... Could it be that we might be doing something wrong when we remove this part... Are we saying toyota has a special tool just to remove this cap? The standard cap removal tools won't work???? Asking because I will be doing this job soon.
