What's the plan here? Hold a Meet-Greet over in the Presidio so I can do a photoshoot then we all head over to Speisekammer Restaurant for eats?

I have been wanting to try the food at that place. It sounds good. :)

How about we plan a meet and greet on Sat. April 4 and see how many people can make it. I was thinking about some options. We could drive up to the top of Mt. Diablo. It has a great 360 view from the top if the weather is nice. You can see the GG bridge and bay. There is parking at the top and we could take some pictures.

We could then cruise to Alameda for food at Speisekammer Restaurant or head to Buffalo Bill's Brewery, Pub and Restaurant in Hayward, California

Hey there. No real pics or update - we spent Thursday night in DC with friends, we're in SC right now catching hell for bringing the bad weather down with us. I'm heading out for the first real leg on my own on Monday. I was trying to get to Natchez Trace by Monday night, but it looks like that would be a long haul (8+ hours on the interstate, much more on the B roads I'm trying to stick to). I think it's looking like Fall Creek Falls for the first night. I'll pm you, FJ60Cam - I'll likely be in your hood Tuesday.

sounds like a dream trip best of luck, looking forward to your future post of the trip:popcorn:

memphis?

Hey all - I'm about two hours out of memphis. Sorry for the late notice. FJ60Cam is checking his availability for some bbq. Plan is to grab some food in town and then get into Arkansas to camp for the night. If anyone's interested, give me a ring. Cam's suggestion was the Commisary in Germantown, so I'll likely head there either way.

Address is:
2290 Germantown road, Germantown TN

In other news, I started a blog about the trip - it's at:
F this - I'm going to Alaska

I'll update both mud and there, but mud I'll use more for planning and coordination. I'll post thoughts, experiences, etc on the blog. Plus, they have a built-in picture resizing tool, so that makes life easier.

I'll write some more this evening. In the meantime, it's bbq and Arkansas. I'm coming into Colorado from the SouthEast, so if anyone's along that route let me know. I'll post a more exact route later.

Trips going great so far, in large part due to you guys.

If you guys get this going, I'll try to make it down the hill. Suppose this means I'll have to get the rustbucket off the jackstands.

I was going to wait a week for more suggestions. Who is interested in coming?

Sounds like a great trip. Several years ago my son and flew to Anchorage and picked up a Land Rover Defender D90. Drove it back to Seattle.

Couple of suggestions..

Buy a copy of Mileposts...any travel bookstore or AAA will have it. It is THE definitive guide to the ALCan Highway. A MUST HAVE!!!

Also, if you are coming up through Seattle/Vancouver, take the western Cassier Highway branch of the Alcan, after you get into BC. Far more scenic, stays pretty much in the Rockies and Coast Ranges, whereas the eastern highway gets out on the plains and can be pretty boring and not near the scenery. Will add a few miles to your journey but WORTH IT!!!

Good luck and take thousands of pictures!

Hey,

Good meeting you tonight. Hope you make it to Arkansas fine. Keep us up to date.

Just thought of something, how many spare tires do you have? If I were you I may take 2 depending on how far off the road you are planning on traveling, and I think you have the room with that nice bumper you've got. Really only relevant if you check this thread in between now and alaska haha.

I tried to touch base with you Saturday but couldn't get past the "not available...blah-blah" robotic lady's voice. I'm w/o cell reception for a week or so where we're headed but I'll be sure to watch the thread and get in touch w/ you by the 31st.

:)

BTW, More pics in here and the Blog...No Excuses!

That highway is amazing ! We saw 9 black bears in less than 32hrs while driving.
Make sure you stock up on fuel though! Oh and look out for the moose. :steer:

Hope to see you in Edmonton; perhaps RockDoc can organize something for you.

cheers.

Great suggestions, but it's "The Milepost" and the Cassiar highway. Be prepared for a slower drive on the Cassiar (that's good!), but hope you don't get stuck behind a carvavan of motor homes. There may be only one gas station and one hotel for 500miles-be sure to check out the route.

Kevin:

I'd like to see if can make it. We can also try for the place we used last time if the parking lot is not being used for something else.

Red's Java House at Pier 30 right at Bryant and Embarcadero. (Burgers, Beer, Fish & Chips Etc)

Nice views of the Bay Bridge and Alactraz, no GG Bridge view though.
