May I ask where you got the seat covers? They are really very nice.

Since installing the rebuilt engine I keep smelling exhaust especially at stand still or slow driving. Been observing stain around the exhaust manifold joint. Finally got in all the replacement parts, or so I thought. Started taking the exhaust manifold off. What a pain. Here you can see the exhaust stains.

No O ring and the steel rings are frozen totally collapsed so nothing sealing the joint area. Anyone have any ideas of how to get these steel rings out? Heated and cooled twice. Going let soak overnight with mouse milk.
Edit, the O rings may have been under the steel rings, but definitely destroyed after years of use.

Are the rings supposed to be springy like a piston ring?
I’d use a dremel cutoff wheel on the side opposite the overlap then use a small screwdriver like a chisel.

Heated with oxy acetylene? Is manifold cast iron?

Great thread! You passed right through my hometown of Chattanooga shortly after leaving Dalton, GA. I worked in Dalton when I was in high school. That must have been one heck of a ride. The longest I've ever done, was from Chattanooga, TN to Calgary, Alberta and back.

Problem with removing and installing these little screws in the plastic eventually strips out the plastic that these screws go into. I had 4 stripped out. Found some next size larger screws. Drilled the ends through to make room for the longer screws.
