Just did the Throttle Body remove and clean on my recently purchased 2014 LX570 due to it began running lean after a particularly rough Death Valley trip. Upon removing the TB which was found needing a carbon removal service, I was VERY surprised to see basically fresh mud in the throat of the intake manifold just past the TB. I've heard a small amount of air filter bypass is common for the 200, but this was so much more than expected. The mud was a mix of fuel and very fine silt that could bave been spooned out, but I used dry rags instead. I cleaned it of course, will do injectors and plugs in the very near future, but my question is, what is everyone doing to tighten up the air intake enough to keep the dust out? I can't tell where that amount of dust got in - the TB was secure/all bolts were tight, the gasket on the motor side of the TB seemed to be doing it's job, and I can't be sure it was an OEM air filter, but it there is no Toyota mark.

Thoughts? What experience has anyone had with an aftermarket airbox, and/or are there other known fixes?

Are you totally sure the air filter was in place and clamped correctly? The PCV or whatever hose attached to the intake tube in place? That seems like a whole lot of dirt for the typical airbox issues we see. I had an ultra-fine layer of dust inside the clean side of the airbox, nothing visible in the intake tract otherwise.

Was there much dirt in the clean side of the filter box?

Watert/mud in the intake is extremely unusual. How does the airbox look? In any case, if I lived closer to Death Valley or a desert, I'd probably go with the Donaldson airbox. As is, It doesn't fit perfect though.

Curse of the fech fech! One thing I did dumbly onece: install the air filter poorly, leaving the filter housing clips not properly seated. Noticed very quickly, thankfully. What's the condition of your O2 sensor? That thing should be just rocked giving the goodies that passed by it. Surprised you are not coding to high heaven and running lean a/f.
