Against my better judgment.... A bj70 project

That is correctm 86 and 87 are 24 volt units..

Cam, your truck should of had the 6volt plugs...

There is a good thread on installing the wilson switch, find the wire to the solenoid that feeds 12 volts, not the one with resister in line to drop volotage.

Just did one, all my wiring was done under the dash, as apposed to the way I use to do it from in cab into engine bay.

Hey aren't Cdn BJ70's 12V?

Anyone know how to identify the voltage of the glow plugs?

And I haven't got the stereo lecture yet. There is one already installed, with a 12v converter under the hood.

Nope, Canuck rigs were 1985 12 volt 86 and 87 24 volts trucks, kinda messed up o_O...

Should be on the plug, kinda hard to read..pull one out, it does not take long..

Got it cleaned up inside and out, and then threw some new tires on it. Now now I just gotta drag myself outside to screw with the glow plugs

So I did some checking, the glow plugs are 14v ones. They where just replaced before I bought it but it was not working after they replaced them. I just checked and the last plug gets a steady 24v from when I turn the key until after the second relay shuts off. They get power much longer than the light come on, but it is always the same voltage. Any thoughts?

it's been a while since I had 24v superglow, so the details are a little dim.

Start with the easy and obvious, sand the bus bar up, and the connections, and while you have the bar off, do an ohm test on the plugs, just to see if they're all the same (who knows, they may have installed a dud)

search superglow in the diesel section, some clever folk have gone into a lot of details on it all. (ad crushers to ignore list first unless you enjoy grunts and brachiating)

It would not be the same on the board without good ole Wayne:poof:, ever noticed over the years he would disappear for a week or two or maybe a month.,me thinks that was Woody giving him a little holiday..

Almost got him banned once...woody sent us both a warning..."one more word...."

I would have gladly accepted the ban, " it is a far , far better thing I do..." etc. :hillbilly:

Now as for your picture, I think, were it me, I'd have photoshopped a blanket over someones lap. Just sayin. :flipoff2:

I know right.....told her it was a family camp ground.....;)

Left the shop last night and all of a sudden everything got a little louder. Got out to look and had a "there's your problem" moment. I guess my afternoon is planned out for me today.

Doh! Going to throw a new muffler on there, or redo the whole exhaust?

Are you planning to turbo the 3B in the future?

I bought a mandrel bent 2.5" aluminized pipe kit from Lordco when I did mine, and it has stood up well. Went with an Aeroturbine muffler which I've been very happy with, but it might be a bit loud on a non turbo cruiser...

It will be getting a turbo sometime in the future, when It does I will be using the second half of a universal stainless 2.5" dual kit my friend has. (The first half is in his celica). So for now I'll just be patching things back together.

Got a 300xz turbo I will have to build a manifold... Good little truck tho...

Guy up around the corner has a BJ70 rust free original in his car port for the last 14 years, I have left a message on it asking if it would be for sale, no reply still sitting..

That first section of pipe was still available at toyota when I had my 70. Made life easy, not cheap, but I don't remember it being that bad.

It actually just broke right at the clamp, so there's still some over lap. I should be able to get away with a new clamp and some muffler cement. And if not then ill break out welder.

I'd clamp and weld it. Cement has never worked for me.

I ended up clamping it and giving it one good tack weld. I used cement but more just to seal it. Should hold for a while... Hopefully
