And some pics please

@InkMing , if you dont like it, you can always peel it off and start over. I am fairly new to the plasti-dip too, but I think I have a pretty good grasp on how to apply it.

Do a light first coat and allow to dry for 10 minutes (you should still be able to see the chrome easily through the first coat).
The second coat, get full coverage, and again, allow to dry for 10-15 minutes
The same with the third coat and even fourth coat (if you want to make sure you have the best coverage)

I have found that the newest coat of plasti-dip melts the coat underneath it, and smooths out as it dries. The key is to get that light first coat to dry and to do even passes as you paint on the next coats; that will give you the best results. I found that the areas that I did that looked bad, were areas that I put the coats on too thick, and areas that were not properly prepped (cleaned with detergent / brake parts cleaner). YMMV.

Well once you see what I was doing, you will see that trying to peel it off of just the lettering is tough. And I actually picked up some new exacto knives to try and cut it. But it is rubbery and because it does want to peel naturally, it provided a challenge.

I won't post up a before pic of the rear nameplate, we all know what that looks like.

One thing I will throw out there, I saw a 4Runner on the way home last night, newer one and they rear name plate was colored out from the factory it looks like. Might be a trim level thing on the 4Runner where it is either all chrome or just the letters are chrome.

Rear name plate all black:

Driver side chrome on side molding. Letters peeled on rear name plate:

Passenger side chrome now covered with plasti dip:

The rear lettering:

It was going fairly well except for the small inner pieces. A, R, S, and E. Those ended up peeling out. But I really like it. And I like the lack of chrome on the side molding pieces as well. And hell, for $11 and some time, cheap mod. But trying to trim the letters was a pain.

And as for the chrome on the sides:

I really like the black for the inserts on the side molding. Ties in nice with the sliders.

It all looks great (minus the lettering on the rear hatch garnish). I have no idea how to do that properly, but to carefully mask the area and remove the mask while the paint it still a bit wet.

I like the look. My graphics guy couldn't fit me in on Friday so had to reschedule. I will have the garnish done just like yours but in 3M satin black vehicle wrap and letters cut out if he can do it without cutting chrome with knife.

Haha the letters that gave you problems are "ARSE":moon: keep those chrome and black out the other letters... Kidding. :p

I see what you did there

Might just be easier to tape the letters off and then actually use paint instead of the plasti dip. I really like how it came out, so I might go that route for the rear hatch garnish.

Cody, let me know what you find out from your guy. I will talk to my vinyl guy tonight and see what he thinks.

Once upon a time I had everything blacked out with plasti dip. Didn't hold up well with the sand and desert heat and also i got bored of everything except the lug nuts being black

I've used black Gorilla Nuts for years on my 4Runner on black steelies and on my current powder coated alloys. They've held up well and I'd get them again if I change out the stock wheels on my Land Cruiser.

It does have clips. The fsm shows how to remove it.
I don't have the fsm and I'm getting my rear garnish and front grille wrapped on Saturday. They said they can do it with out taking it off but if it's easy enough to remove I may go that route.
