How are you going to run the cables? I think that's my biggest concern. I was also thinking of putting it on the rear of my roof rack, but running wires would suck.

May be it's a little off topic, but are you guys connecting any of these back up camera to OEM Navi/Radio unit? I am interested in having a back up camera, but I got OEM Navi (which I would like to keep). Is there anyway I can use the same screen?

Thanks,

Steve

I'll mount mine on the swingout on my bumper. I like to have it close to centered over the hitch as it works awesome for backing up to a trailer.

I fabed a little hinged bracket out of aluminum and scecured it dead center above the licence plate. I made the bracket adjustable so you can tilt the camera to still see with the tail gate up. Makes it really nice when backing to conect to a trailer. I ran the wires up through the tailgate with the OEM harness that is in place.
It was 1 banana job.

Where do you guys mount your screens? I don't have a need for a backup camera, but I'm still curious, I think it's a neat modification.

Kenwood double DIN touchscreen head unit.

As far as need goes, I need it most when backing up in the dark. I can't see squat directly behind me.

Well, I installed my camera on my roof rack thinking that it would help with my trailer. I kind of like it there, but the rear brake light really puts out some blinding light in the dark. I'm probably going to mount it on the tailgate to get a better view of the hitch/bumper area.

I installed an aftermarket camera in the existing keyhole on the rear tailgate of my 99 LX. I removed the existing lock - the key fob will still function properly for lock / unlock funtions. I've had it that way for about two years and have not had any problems. (This is reversible if you ever want to put the lock back). I ran the wires inside with the rest of the tailgate wiring. The camera feed to an aftermarket double din - Alpine headunit.

Let me know if anyone wants pics.

On a side note : Does anyone know a method to reverse the image on a camera - left / right only? The camera i have has normal optics - (right is left and left is right) - by the time you get the image to the screen inside the car. On a TRUE rear view camera (factory installed) the right is on the right and the left is on the left.

Sorry if I confused anyone.

which alpine unit? on a friends n1 that i installed in his acura there was an option under the settings menu. from memory its the menu where you can select weather or not you want the screen to show the rear image when the car is shifted into reverse automatically. you can also select the mirror aspect to compensate for cameras that do no show "true" rear view

Yes, when I put the vehicle in reverse, the screen automatically goes to the camera (and off when not in reverse). I have not seen the settings you are referring to, but I will certainly look tomorrow (it is an older unit - maybe IVA-W200?).

Thanks for the advice.
