hey folks. i have a 94 pickup with a 22RE that i'd like to install air conditioning in. i'm starting to spend more time in the BC interior where it's hot in summer, and am thinking of moving there, so the a/c would be great. are there aftermarket options available for me? or do i have to find a junker and pull one out? i'm not the most experience mechanic, so buying the new parts and having my mechanic install them would be way easier for me. i'd like to do it for under 2 grand if i could. thanks. :)

For under 2 grand you could find a running truck with ac.... :D I'd find a "junker" and swap the parts over with all new seals etc... Any after market unless specifically designed for your truck will be one issue after another.... and probably way more money.

You'd want a 89(90 4runner)-95 pickup/4Runner with a 22RE. A truck would be better, as the 4Runner may have some small differences.... I've never done that swap. I know a couple people here have been in there... Hopefully they will chime in.

I just did major work on my A/C after a MVA, and did extensive research on the subject. The A/C system is pretty simple, and accessing the cooling unit (under the dash) is also easy, as it's just behind the glove box.

You could easily strip what you need from a donor in 2-3 hours. Easily. Drier, condenser, compressor/bracket/belt, cooling unit, and four or five lines/hoses. Don't forget the on/off toggle switch.

they changed from R12 to R134 a in 95. by 'they' i mean all manufactures.
look for a 95. i dont know if any of the mounts have changed by then, i doubt it. still a 22RE

at least with a 95 set up, you can actually afford to charge it.

I've seen a few complete used systems recently on ebay that were from parted out vehicles. Not sure if they were from trucks or 4Runners but I did see them while searching 89 to 95 Toyota 4Runners. They appeared to include everything that you would need. Just FYI.
