Very cool and very jealous! Did a dual sport ride a few years ago in the Nevada desert near bodie, (surviving ghost town). We found a few old mines and small cabins along the way, but couldn’t stop for too long. It’s 5 hours from where I live, sure wish it was closer!

5 hours? That’s nothing but a skip

Love that pic. But I’m going to use this as a hijack. Apology up front.

I’m not a wheeler, I use my rigs for work and play (hunting). So I try to avoid rocks like that. Sometimes I don’t because I’m driving through 4ft tall wildland grass chasing cows and I don’t see one. Never a good outcome. Questions - what do you do when you come off a rock like that, and how do you not smash your rocker panels to smitherenes? Or after posing and pics does everyone back off and go around?

(I hijacked this thread with this question because I trust the author @JackA as it’s clear he uses and knows how to use his rigs).

hijack over. Thanks. Paul

The rock is not actually that tall to damage the rockers. The key to navigating rocks is slow, smooth, and take it easy. We don't really go looking for rocks to drive over these days, but sometimes it's what you get.

Back in my rock buggy days......there was not too many obstacles I would stay away from....lol

The start of 2020 brings some changes to the life of the LV. It took a pretty good beating over 2019 and just kept on trucking. I actually almost sold it at one point though. I am tired of sacrificing my own personal comfort just to drive my cool old truck. Plus all this wheeling is begining to wear on the wagon. It's gotten a few dents lately and the doors just won't stay latched all the way anymore. It is in need of a trip to the spa.

So, in the meantime, I pulled the trigger on a 2002 Lexus LX470. This will serve as my daily driver and replace the LV for wheeling, exploring, and camping. It's a bit of an upgrade to say the least. It's the fanciest vehicle I have ever owned. Alot of trips I want to do require more highway miles and the LV just don't cut it anymore. I think this LX, with some mods, will do perfectly.

Here it is when I bought it. Then a few days later with new tires and no running boards (also set in high mode).

That is sad news. I am sure your future adventures will be more comfy I will miss seeing the LV in them. What are your plans for the lv? I hope you don't paint it.

As others have stated we will miss your adventures/pics in the LV...but the LX470 is a nice score. Why not get the LX custom wrapped to make it look patina'd like the LV? ;)

All that counts is that you continue to hit the trails and see new places. Please keep posting pics.

Damn I wanted to hit some trails with you and Dave G. In the old iron. Just wait on that hot summer's day and Feel that cool breeze coming from the A/C vent! Not a bad idea.
Mike
