I'm looking at buying a 77 FJ55 with no A/C. I live in the desert and A/C is a must and would need to add it. Any advice on if it is feasible, cost, how to go about adding? Also, any recommendations on mechanics in Boise Idaho? Thanks

There were AC offerings in the 70s for the 55. I have a couple of the 55 spec harmonic balancers with the AC pulley. Not sure if I still have the compressor bracket as well.

Best to follow @J Mack advice and head over to the 55 forum to see what others have done. If stock FJ60 parts will work under the hood, they are obviously going to be easier to find.

Dont know how cool you want it but you could do a dual system like the suburbans have, just rob the lines and the rear unit from a late model suburban and have a y installed in the pressure and return.. 90's suburban stuff front and rear is compact and essentially free as the no one wants it.

Good luck
