I have a 1998 Land Cruiser 100 series and I am having issues with the air conditioning (AC). The AC will only work if the position selector is in the defrost position. It will not work in Auto, Chest, Chest/Feet, or Feet only position. It also only works with the air recirculate switch is in the open, outside air, position and will not let me put it in the cabin recirculate position.

I figured it was probably the control module so I bought a used one and installed it. Doing this did not change anything so I am fairly confident it is not the module.

Has anyone else had this problem or have an idea of where to start? Anyone know where I can get the wiring diagram for the control module?

The Defrost position runs the AC by default. It also locks out the Recirc position. The other modes comes through the AC control module.

I understand that. The recirc position will not work in any of the vent/heat modes either. It only works in the open recirc position.

Any idea on how to go about testing that and the AC control module?
 
My 100 series had this problem as well. Turns out the button in the control panel to toggle the A/C was faulty, and followed the two attached threads to re-boot the momentary switches on the recirc, a/c, and rear blower controls. Everything works as it should now!

My center console buttons have been working intermittently. This is a great thread on how to replace the buttons. But before tackling the job installing new switches, I thought I'd give it one easy attempt at cleaning the switches. And after a month, I can say it has worked for me. YMMV! Pictures shown are from a '98 LX470 but the same method applies to all years.

Parts needed: D-Series Deoxit D5 (or equivalent), suitable ball point pen/mechanical pencil (preferably clear housing), latex gloves (optional), air gun/blow dryer helpful but not necessary.

Edit - Its been about 5 weeks of daily driving since i did this and all the buttons are still working great!

I have taken tons of valuable info from this site and now it is my turn to contribute something.

This write up covers the repair of the buttons shown below for the recirculation, A/C, defrost and rear controls:

On my cruiser, all of these buttons were getting to be really intermittent and over the past month it had gotten to where i could not reliably turn off the A/C or the rear...
