If it's Sunday I can do a day trip, I just need to give my wife one weekend night to go do what she wants. :)

I was thinking just a day trip, and I would prefer somewhere other than Coyote Canyon. That is going to be a zoo with a bunch of Honda Elements and Rav4's full of old people with cameras.
You got that right. We did Coyote and went early. We got good flower viewing with not too much traffic out there at all. Then we went up to Sheeps Canyon for lunch. When we came back through after the deep crossing, it was a mad house. Darn good viewing last week though.

OK, this from the ABNP website:

ATTENTION! - NEW Wildflower Report - March 4, 2010

After a winter of bountiful rain, the desert is poised to burst into
a riot of colorful blossoms. We currently expect a very good bloom.

Because of the cooler than normal weather we have had
in the last few weeks, we estimate of the peak bloom will
now likely occur between the second and third week of March.

And here is the link to the Wild Flower Map

So lets make this happen either Sar or Sun but lets nail it down today!

Nice map. I can do either day and taking Monday off. If we go Sunday, I might stay & do some camping and probably checkout the rodrun in Temecula on Saturday, but also was thinking about heading to upper Coyote Canyon to see if there are any flowers there - never seen more than one or two other trucks there.

Looks like #8 is close to crossover trail. I would like to avoid as many (other) people as possible but not enough to attempt Pinyon Mnt Rd.

That sounds like one hell of a weekend you are mapping out!

Well it looks like it might just be you and me on this run. We definitely don't have to do Pinyon Rd. but I was thinking more like doing 6 & 7 via Canyon Sin Nombre and down Diablo drop off and over to Elephant Tree. Lunch and a beer at the Iron Door and then up the 78 and either hit up 9 & 5 for more flowers or more wheeling hit up 4 for a very scenic grapevine trail down to Cup Valley. From there you can head down into Borrego Springs and to Coyote Canyon and I can head up through Ranchita home.
For a more detailed trail map go here to see the trails I am talking about: http://www.markkuz.com/maps/Anza-Borrego_Map-1.pdf

Looks like I am in for Sunday and I am bringing my wife and 2 of my kids. I am hoping for an early start (9am at Canyon Si Nobre trailhead) because my wife has a busy afternoon so I will be only doing a half day run. Looking forward to meeting some new peeps!

OK so on this PDF map I have http://www.markkuz.com/maps/Anza-Borrego_Map-1.pdf there is a point of interest call "Carizzo Badlands Overlook" I would assume there is a sign or a pull out off the Hwy where we could meet and it's just South of the Canyon Sin Nombre trail head. Lets aim to meet their at 9:00 AM. Remember to move your clocks forward Saturday before you go to bed or we will be long gone! Lets go with CB channel 14 since that's the date Sun.

I have heard from several sources that the peak bloom has not come yet and won't come till next weekend or possibly even after that. The temps have been on the chilly side and it's been raining out there. This has depressed the bloom somewhat. I'm gonna wait for the peak.

It is supposed to hit 90 degrees this next week out there should we postpone this til next weekend?

I'm in for both weekends. I've been down there the last few and have wanted to checkout Canyon sin nombre for a while. If you guys decide to head down there next weekend, I'm still going Sunday and will report back on the conditions.

I stopped at the carrizo overlook on the way to mortero wash trail and there are at least two signs for it with trails connecting the sections.

Sure  you just don't want to be seen with a bunch of CRUZAS and are going to wait for your Jeep buddies! :flipoff2:

Not sure where you are getting your weather but it's going to be beautiful according to WeatherUnderground & Yahoo.

Weather.com says 90 next Wednesday. This nice weather next week should kick in the bloom. I'd prefer max bloom. My brother was messin' around out off Split Mtn Rd. today and said there was definitely flowers blooming but nothing crazy yet.

For me it doesn't matter as the wheelin' part is what I am interested in the most, but my wife really wants to see the flowers in full bloom.
