Hi,

I just got the clutch changed in my A442F, shifts very smooth, runs well, but after we fitted the tranny back, noticed a grinding shift when playing around with the transfer case, its like gears struggling to sync in. Now this happens when the truck's engine is on but when in dead slow, but it shifts smooth when the engine is off (sounds a bit silly in my head but still stating it :p) and this did not exist before tranny coming down and mine is an full time 4x4. I have a big roadtrip coming along from tomorrow, can someone please help what is wrong? Can I drive the truck this way?

Cheers

Does "when in dead slow" mean you are driving when shifting the transfer case?
Grinding is only while shifting the transfer?

The transfer case gears have synchros on HI range only, no synchro on LO range.

To shift to low you need to come to a stop, shift the tranny to neutral will take any load off the drive train.
You can shift from LO to HI range while drivkng.. It's best to shift tranny to neutral to do this.

I'm wondering if the tranny prior to new work was slushy enough that you were getting away with it before?

X2, shift the transfer case with trans in neutral, and best to be completely stopped.
