After a complete paint job and reassembly I noticed something might have happened to the shifter in my BJ74 (equipped with A440 transmission, lever positions PRND32L). It is now a little loose when engaged in R, N or D. The lever doesn't stay put, but moves up & down a little. There's no mechanical issues since all gears engage and engine starts in both P & N but I want to get it fixed and get rid of the "looseness".

Could it be the bushings? (they seem fine) or should I get a new shifter assembly? PM if anyone have an available shifter for sale (picture attached for reference).

Thanks in advance for the comments.

There is a lot of parts inside one of these but they look very rebuildable. I haven't dismantled one of these but on others I have fixed ,it was usually just a piece of plastic that is designed to be expendable to save wear on other bits.
So I would have a go at fixing it.
It might be this little blighter, 90385-16008. It is a bush that sits on the end of the shifter.

I had a Ford years ago and every 2 years I would have to replace a tiny plastic bush or the shifter vibrated all over the place at the lights.
