I will admit to being fairly new to the pig community (less than a year), but I have noticed a trend.

I will also admit to being perhaps a little too proud of my Piggy and how cool it is. I think that everywhere I drive, people ought to stare and smile. This, for the most part happens. Especially with drivers of other 4wd's. (You know where this is going)

4wd pick-up truck drivers, Bronco drivers, Scout drivers, of course TLC drivers, even "mall run" SUV drivers. I even had a girl in a Ford Explorer taking video of me with her pink phone. (While she was driving next to me, of course)

Guess who NEVER gives the Ole Piggy a second glance? You guessed it, Jeep drivers. Doesn't matter if it is a bone stock one or one that has been fitted with lift kits, light bars, jerry cans and farm jacks. New or old Jeep, young or old driver, male or female; doesn't matter. The pig is invisible to them.

Am I the only one who has noticed this?

I have some theories as to the cause of the Heep driver's disinterest, but I would like to get some other people's opinions on the matter before I [STRIKE]make a fool of myself[/STRIKE] wax poetic re: Heep driver's problems.

Mom

Suddenly I remember what Mom said about sayin things so i'm not sayin anything at all! ;)

They do seem to notice us more when we are on trails!

It's a Jeep thing.
In all seriousness it runs about 50/50 here in the Fresno area. 50 don't give a rip and the other 50 are a split between rubber necking and waves.

You know when you are driving and someone does a bone head move like cutting you off, and you have to swerve and honk. Then you try to get up next to them and to give them the "WTF are you doing look" and they are just 10 and 2 with eyes strait forward. They do that because they know they were wrong and just want it to go away. That is what is happening with the Jeep drivers. They see you and your way better vehicle so they ignore you till you leave and they can go back to pretending that they are the big man (maybe woman) in town again.

Lol at all your guys comments.

I work at Jeep so I have a little insight. I can honestly say that only 25% of jeep'ers (lifted/modded jeeps) are actually car guys. As with anyone with something modded. The reason you get few jeep guys rubber necking is because frankly they could give two s***s about anything else on the road.

When I was driving my pig to work I had plenty of jeep guys comment. Even the owner stopped and gave it a look over.

^^^

I think you are bang on. Most jeep owners are just in it because it makes them feel outdoorsy. You get the same response from them as you would a mustang owner or a MB owner.

I'm guessing about the same percentage of Jeep owners appreciate a well put together Land Cruiser as Toyota owners that appreciate a well done Jeep.

because many jeep owners are penis boys. they think the jeep makes them cool...has nothing to do with 4wheeling. kind of like the guys that drive lifted diesel trucks with nothing to tow.

i actually had an old man in a cj5 chase me down when i was driving the blue pig so he could give me a thumbs up.

Funny thing is, I get a similar (lack of) reaction from 60 and 80 series drivers around here.

There are maybe two 100 series around here that look like they wheel, the rest are soccer mom vehicles.

I have stopped going ape-s*** to wave at other Cruisers. If I get a response, I wave back.

:meh:

I've noticed a lot of heeps won't even wave back, give dirty looks, ect. I have also noticed that it's mostly newer jeeps that are like this. I think maybe it's a built it vs bought it thing with heeps. Those who wheel, and built the heep, will give a wave or a nod because they understand. Those guys who have more money then brains and buy a heep, take it to a shop and say "make this badass" have no clue. I've noticed even on the trail these guys are kinda dicks. Getting pissed when someone has a break down and makes them wait a few minutes. Won't help with stuff, make dumb comments about jap s*** (more about mini trucks I guess), ect.

I really think that's the issue, Jeeps are new... anyone can go get one. It takes a different kind of person to buy something and then build it into something else and wheel it, or buy an old truck and even if it's stock it's still old and needs lots of work. Those people get it, and wave back.

You also hit it on the head. Part of my job is pricing out lifts and selling them a ton of aftermarket parts to make them "cool" This ranges from your 20yr old guy that knows nothing about vehicles to your 50-60 yr olds that are going through a midlife crisis. The majority of them will never see dirt roads. Kinda sad to know, but at the same time, i think it makes the true car guys appreciate each other that much more.

Also as far as the built not bought guys. I personally havent been on any runs in the black hills with big groups (Dakota challenge/Jeep Jamboree) but my co workers that help out with the event say that the majority of the people that bring rigs from out of state (old guys that bought there Jeep/Buggy) are the biggest A-holes there are. Impatient and could careless about anyone else on the trail. Hate those guys.

I want to add FJ Cruiser drivers to the list. I get no love from lifted and equipped fjs. They must think in 2006 Toyota decided to finally make something to compete with Jeep.

Ignore them and remind yourself that you drive one of the finest four wheel drives to roll the planet. Hell, I've had people thank me for keeping my Pig on the road. How many Jeep drivers have heard a sentiment like that?
