A friend of mine has a 95 yota ext cab with the 4cyl in it that he is junking. I have a 90 with the v6 in it. The reason i want to swap is because he has the elc rear locker and my question is what is the easiest way to go about this? Trying to save myself from buying a detroit for the rear.

thanks in advance
Chris

PS forgot to mention they are both 4wd and my v6 is a reg cab not ext.

Welcome to Mud! :flipoff2:

I'd say the easiest way is to swap the diffs... You'll have to drill and tap holes on both axle housings, and do some heftier mods to your axle to fit the locker...

Remember to search before you ask questions.

oh, so thats the nice way to tell people to search and or check the faq....

hmmm i aint makin no promises, but i have been tring to be nicer

The last time I looked into it it was something like:

$150 for gears
$100 for the setup kit
$200 for labor (with me pulling the diff)

I'm not an expert on the Gen2/3 trucks but my guess is that you have a 4.30 ratio in your diffs and your friend has 4.10 gears; but that's only a guess.

If I am correct then you would want to regear your friend's diff to match yours. Regearing your front to match your friend's diff is an option but it would be a bad one (again, if my guess is correct) as you would loose quite a bit of performance.

Anyone know about how much it will cost to get it regeared? Or would it be easier to swap the front diff too?
Thanks
Chris

Might as well....
