Some say it’s worth doing, some say it’s not. I rebuilt my engine with a new short block and rebuilt top end and basically skipped past the breakin and sent it to get painted. Since I happened to be in the same state as the painter and the diff rebuilder I decided to capitalize on the opportunity although it cost a lot more to do it the way I did, but the level of service I’m getting from the guru is worth it for me. His communication, professionalism, experience, expertise, and just plain technical prowess is worth every penny. I’d have paid more.

How much of his fee is for authoring a mini novel? 😆

It's awesome to see the process and technical detail though 👌

Everything is the opposite when you're talking about the pinion tooth so instead of being too deep on the pinion you will see that now we are too far to the outside of the tooth

Basically you're looking for the loading from top of tooth to the root of the tooth and putting everything in the center
And it's all these details for why I want him to do my diffs. I have the ability and the tools. This is one of those things that I don't have the patience, nor the time to go through.

Zuk is incredible how he records what's happening on each and every diff.

Not to say other techs couldn’t do the job but having the matching shop, and every single speciality tool. The talk a lot about the same issues Zuk mentions.

Ya I have a good friend who worked in a diff shop 20yrs ago. He did hundreds of setups if not more when he worked there. He has done all my diffs up to a few years ago when I started doing them. Few dozen he did for me, never had any probs. Now he is my quality control man when we set them up.

Cheers

There are plenty of options to choose from. I have many closer and cheaper options.

As evident in this thread and elsewhere, the anal-retentiveness of Zuk is the reason I chose him.

70 ft lb on all four bearing cap bolts

Drive side... The . 001 less shim is quite noticeable, better balance from the root of the tooth to the top of the tooth
1687472614506.webp

Coastside wow the improvement is so much better... two of the three teeth look perfect

Pinion tooth..... Look at the difference between the length of the line on the root of the tooth in the length of the line on the outside edge they are well balanced, the load-bearing is in the center that's the final approval of a very nice pattern

And my thirds are done!

I definitely see a decent amount of $ in jigs and tools just to do this work properly. Kudos to Zuk for allowing photos of the wizardry to be de-classified.
Pell I'm excited for you. The rig is going to be amazing!

You’re not wrong. I saw the pictures and vids on @Broski thread and others from the GSMTR that I missed and I’m like oh fück me. I definitely need a trail rig. Do I even like trail riding? 🤣🤣

Trail riding is very addicting and what I do is beyond trail riding. I would call it technical rock crawling and its beyond what most on the forum think a 80 is capable of and one of the reasons I like posting.
At the soup bowl when it was my turn someone in the crowd said oh I got to see this and I made it up easier then anyone in our group or that we watched while we were there. ;)
And there's the other side of it the beauty of the mountains, rivers and wildflowers. I really enjoy that part as well. The only other way to get back there is to back pack in but then you don't get the steak BBQ and your favorite cold beverage.
Both of the guys in our group brought there boys it was great family fun !!
In August I will be going to Solid axle Summit, It's trail riding at it's finest Family oriented and perfectly suited to your rig Pell your whole would enjoy it. My Son and his wife will be joining my wife and I.
It's where I met ceylonfj40nut, @SipLife and the rest of their Family. and a bunch of other great people.
You should really try to make it !!!

Sorry for the long winded Hi jack

Got the trailer hooked up 29 Jun and headed west. I forgot how shîté the roads in AR and OK are. The drivers are worse. No, they’re about the same.

The cruiser being delayed sucks, but I get to see her soon.

Crap pic, this was only day two. We pushed at 0430 and the kiddos were wiped

Have a safe trip!
Watch out for idiots!!

Just finished reading your entire build thread. Great to see how thorough you have been, and the use of so many genuine parts!

That's what happens when an OCD aircraft mechanic retires and substitutes 80s for planes.

"Oh my god Becky, look at those nuts! They're not OEM!"

Thanks for the kind words! It is nice being able to source so many genuine parts for a relatively low cost. I know you guys have to pay through the nose, but you guys get some pretty sweet toys. Maybe it a a decent trade off?
