Looking to buy a small/medium 4X4 for our business. No real serious 4 wheeling, but definitely need it to get to some our sites, as we have to be in low range to even climb there.

Came across a 94 SR5 with the V6 engine, 219,000 miles, looks to be in pretty good shape. Has 5 speed. Seller wants $2,850.

What should I be wary of? I'm a 40 & 55 owner and have rebuilt both, but don't know this model.

Thanks for any assistance.

The V6 is pretty under powered for a V6, has some head gasket issues, and the engine bay is hard to work in as it's very crowded...

That said, I owned a 90 V6 4Runner with an auto, and it did it's job fine for me. Got it at 195k and sold it around 210k for 100 less than I paid for it... :D

The 5 speed should make it a bit for fun! :D 2850 sounds like a decent deal depending on maintenance records etc... Timing belt is a big one...

They are good trucks, and the 17-19 mpg with the 5 speed will seem great compared to the F/2F's you're used to...

If you get a truck a year or two younger you will have the choice of better engines. The 3.4L V6 and the 2.7L I4 are better than the 3.0L V6 and the 22re offered in 1994. The down side is the 4Runner will have a lift gate instead of the tailgate.

Rust, especially in the vicinity of the tail pipe. Check if all of the jack tools are present. It can be a bitch to get the spare out-even with the right tools. Has the HG been replaced by the factory warranty?
