2006 LX 470 293,000 miles.
mostly stock, 1 person loaded with skiing and fishing gear.
1/12/26 to 3/15/26
Houston to Vancouver and back, definitely not a straight line!
Lots of elevation changes.
9300 miles
560 gallons
$2200 in fuel(premium): In terms of fuel prices, my last 5 tanks had the war premium.
16.66 mpg

*I must give a caveat, i would not say that i was hypermiling, but there are some remote areas where the posted speed limit was 75 and 80, and i would just chug along at 75 mph.

*based only on my experience with my LX* ... that is a crazy average over that distance. I normally average a bit under 10mpg (calculated , based on odometer reading running 33" tires) around town and in the Houston area, but when I was in Colorado/Utah with my family a couple of years back I was able to average almost 18 mpg on a couple of tanks while we were in the mountains in Co, and that was fully loaded with 5 people and a pretty full cargo. Fuel economy took a complete nose dive again once we got back on flat ground closer to sea level.

If you are averaging below 10 you have a problem. I weigh in at 6500 lbs and I still do better than that.

Nice stats on the OP, that sounds about right for a stock / maintained 2UZ . The more weight and drag you add the quicker you get towards to 12 or less mpg range

I'm doing a similar trip later this year, Houston to Banff area and back, and I sure would love to see those numbers. I feel like even limiting myself to 75 mph, I'm not going to see more than 13-14 mpg at best though. I've gotten 17ish once, and that was following a troopy that couldn't even hit 75 mph.

Agreed, I average 12 and mine's heavier than that.

that's why I also noted tire size: I'm calculating off the odometer, but tires are roughly 9% oversize (meaning my recorded mileage is equally lower, actual mpg is probably roughly 10% higher than calculated)... coupled with the fact that 90% of my driving is in-town and I don't drastically alter my driving style vs when I'm in my corvette... there are other issues that contributed to that (lot of extra weight with steel bumpers, rear swing out, winch, and over-size tires put weight per wheel well over 75 lbs ea, plus always keeping the "ETC PWR" mode on, and cracked manifolds kept it running too rich).

lot of mitigating factors in my case, and I was looking forward to seeing the mileage difference once I got the DT headers installed to correct the cracked manifolds, but the tree put a wrench in my plans

premium fuel is a waste in the 100 series , despite what it says on the fuel door
I plan to add another data point to this discussion.
Our big month long trip this summer. 8-9k miles across the USA.
Friend is running premium in his 98 LC I'm running regular in my 2000 LX.

I expect no difference.

I am getting 15.7 MPG at any condition on highway cruise, no cruise.. 73-85 MPH. The cruiser is stock with 265 75 16 A/T tires running at 29 PSI.
If the engine got a knock sensor, which 2UZFE got, the ignition timing will adjust to compensate any engine knocks unlike cars made without a knock sensor. I never use premium in any of my cars except my 92 Prizm which got no knock sensor and pins bad with heavy acceleration with regular gasoline, but unheard of with premium. Not in the Hilux!

On my way to Cruise Moab from Virginia I got as high at 17.2 and averaged around 15. My 33s were filled to about 37psi and I was following a friend in his 80 the whole time because he set the pace. Hills didn't seem to have too much of an impact since you tend to go down whatever hills you go up.

I was also loaded down pretty good with tools and gear and have a Front Runner roof rack as well. Overall I'm very happy with those stats.

I consistently got 17.6 mpg commuting. Then I took the second row and some junk out and get probably 17.9.I filled up and drove 30 miles to work and got 20.0 mpg the other day when the temp was 55°F.

This is: stock '05 LX, defender ltx m/s tires, avg 60 mph / max 67 mph commute at sea level. Numbers are from the nav computer.

On 35’s and I get 13-15+ usually. Premium fuel. I know the roof rack is hurting my numbers some, I expect to get 16 on the highway once I swap back to a stock rack.

Shoot, I would love that! I have an '06, built out, and it's not a DD, so only get's short city trips but I'm at 8MPG...I've done everything except replace the catalytic converters lol.
