Ok, so now Ive been looking at that 37" tire thread way too much and Im gettin stupid ideas. Since a dude at work has showed interest in my duratracks I might grab some new steelies and throw the 37" km2's from the 60 onto the 80 when the 60 gets its new ones.... Im thinking 3.5" back spaced 17"s might be the ticket since I dont really want to run spacers. Im not worried about cutting a little more of the body and putting in some new bumpstops but Id like to avoid the spacers.

Hmmmmm,

D

Do it now!!!! I like where your going with it and am just waiting for right time to do 37s also.

^ I know I asked before but whats the BS on your steelies? You said you still had to run spacers right?

D

37s are not my thing. The back is not good enough to wrestle with those meats.

But I do like to watch:D

My steelies are 17x9-ish (homemade beadlock) and they have a 4.5" BS. I added 1.5" spacers to give me more clearance for the 37x14.50x17's I'm running. If you were running a 37x12.50, they wouldn't be needed and it would actually fit a lot better.

DO IT! 37's on an 80 with a minimal lift will look cool!

You planing on re gearing as well? I know 315's and stock gears are bearable but going to 37's on them maybe asking to much and put undue strain on the tranny.

Creeps, so you think I could stick with a 4.5 BS rim for the 12.5's or should I hunt down a 3.5 Bs'sd set? I dont want to order the wrong rims and end up effing myself. Gonna look for that "what wheels fit the 80" thread.

Im gonna say f it to the regear. Ill just drive w the power button on all the time. I shouldnt even really be messing w the 37's since the 80 isnt my wheeling truck/van, its that damn thread.

D (thanks for talkin me down guys....)

HAHA I started reading that thread when it started and quickly got out of it......it was starting to make me dream. Then 80bajabound's build thread with is 37's and a IMO a perfect setup........sigh. I just need to stick to my plan and go with 35's and be happy lol till there worn out at least :P

talk you down, ill give it a try, you shouldnt get 37s, they would look to cool, give you better ground clearance and let you wheel with more ease. Why would you want that!! I think I have convinced you to not do 37s!!:flipoff2:

If you do in fact want to be talked down then here it is.

You have a 60 that is very well built to wheel and fit big meats too. You also have a Taco that you can wheel and do milder trails in. the 80 was ment as a winter DD and general "get to were I need to go" vehicle. You are at that point with the truck (van) now were you are able to use it for a bit of everything. If you enjoy doing long road trips that you have done (maritimes) then the truck now is perfectly sorted for that.

I for one do not see the point in having 37's on the van for another reason than it looks awesome. You will lose drivability, fuel economy and maybe reliability.

There did I talk you down? :flipoff2:

Yeah yeah, dont they say your fuel mileage will actually be better on the hwy rolling on 37's?? Pretty sure I heard/read that somewhere lol.

Besides looking cool, youre right, theres really no point in doing it. I will also be tempted to wheel the thing more and then Ill want another something or other to DD. Its a vicious cycle man but I like the 80 too much to stop now. It also helps that I have the 37's already and would only need to buy rims (and new tires for the 60 but thats happening anyways). Guess Id have to alter the spare tire carrier a little to fit the spare too.. but thats just the fun part. The fuel consumption isnt a huge concern since I dont drive nearly as much as the average person. My commute to work takes literally 6 minutes if I get mostly green lights and I live in a smaller town so everything is kinda close by.

I dont really look at it as a beater anymore either. Theres way too many new parts on it now so if the engine and drive train hold out (fingers crossed) I should be good for another couple years of dding the thing.

Im now thinking I may keep the duratracks on the 80 rims and throw them onto the tacoma instead of selling. My bfg km1's still have a lot of meat on them but the spare is worn unevenly and one has a slow leak so Id keep em around for trail tires but dd the dt's. I could then put the dt's back on the 80 for the winter if the km2's suck balls but who knows, the po did have them siped..

Anyways, going to visit the 60 tomorrow so Ill measure out the tires to get a rough idea of whats what.

Your tacoma is the most modern rig and i assume gets the best mileage, also i assume it is the least capable? Maybe I am wrong on that last part. DD Taco since it gets best mileage. Your 60 for extreme offroad, the 80 is awesome and you have done lots to it to make it even more awesome. I am going sell my duratracs soon to get 37s i hope. I love them but they dont have bigger ones. I think your rig be cool on 37s, it is already very high clearance truck. Whatever you do cool, i dig your 80 build tons though. I lost my train of thought, carry on!!

I was just trying to be "that guy" I say go for it! 80's look perfect on 37's.

Lol thanks.

I actually really like wheeling the tacoma and would say its just as capable as the 80. It doesnt have all the weight up top like the 80 does so its less tippy and has a standard tranny which I prefer to have off road. I like to refer to it as being handi-capable.

The plethora of skid plating makes up for the lack of height/tire size. Id even say that in the mud the ifs tacoma will out preform a solid axle rig with similar/slightly bigger tires since theres no front diff to get hung up on. Yeah yeah mud's bad but its something you have to navigate through up here on almost every trail..

I usually dont aim for the big puddles but sometimes my ds kicks in. Warning, foul language abounds in the vids below.

I think you would be happy with 3" - 4" BS if you are running a 12.50 wide tire.

Oh, and 37's with stock gears suck. My 5.29's are perfect. Just sayin':flipoff2:

Lol,

Went and checked out some procomp rims today, kinda look like yours. Dude needs to call for a price.

D

Meh, I started a half assed search for some rims, if some fall into my lap then its a go. I dont feel like forkin out 800 bucks for new teel rims right now.

Started redoing my tacoma front bumper to take my mind off the cruisers. Looks kinda cool now and just needs some more grinding/welding to finish.

Also ordered some more goodies from diy4x4 yesterday so I should have all the parts for the proposed hearingaid tire carrier before shes out of storage.
