hi all, the brake light and shift lock stop working all of a sudden. i have to over ride it to drive. checked the relays, fuses, and changed the switch; still not working. not the trailor connector either cause i don't have one. did alot of searches and seem to check out fine, but still not working. i know these two are a related issue but what esle could i have missed. any ideas would help. thanks.

C'mon i tried all day looking for some loose wire or something but still nothing. i know someone out there know this stuff. just to reiterate brake lights don't come on, shifter is stuck in Park unless i over ride it. checked the fuses, relays, and changed the brake light switch (new).

The trans computer gets a signal to one of the wires when you press the brake pedal, I'm assuming this unlocks the shift lock. The brake lights get +12 V when you press the pedal, I'd make sure you have 12 volts at one of the wires going to your light switch. If not, then check the stop fuse, and wiring between there.

If you have 12 volts at the switch, then I would bet you have a bad ground connection where the brake lights get their ground. Check at teh light first, then work back from there. My 89 manual shows the ground connection to be on the left hand side in the rear side panel.

Good luck!

i do have a 12v going to the switch (green/red wire) and the ground at the light is good as well. i don't know what else to think. maybe the green/white wire from the switch to the relay. i'm going to try to jump the relay and see if the lights come on. Can any body help me with a drawing or diagram of the fusebox?

i found these over the internet. StopLight ShiftLock it looks like there's nothing between the switch and light bulbs but the wire splits. i guess i'll just run wires from the switch to the bulbs and the shift lock control ECU. i'll see how that goes.

Will it work if you short the wires at the switch? I know you replaced the switch but would really like to rule that out.
