COMMUNICATIONS during the event ………..

* While not required to attend, GMRS will be the trail comms of choice (@elkaholic on ‘MUD is a dealer for a number of GMRS brands).
* Cell phone coverage while on the trails is somewhere between smoke signals and non-existent. (AT&T seems to be better than some other carriers).
* I will post my phone number prior to the event but once at the park the calls may go straight to voicemail due to crappy reception.
* I will check my email in the evenings (I’ll also post my email address prior to the event).

I am getting reports that "the site is down" for registration. If you are finding this, please send me a DM. I am monitoring both the off-roadcomms.com site and eventbrite and I am not seeing glitches. If you are having difficulties, please try this direct link or contact me directly.

We have found the problem and those responsible have been sacked ... we apologize for the inconvenience ...

In response to a few emails …….

Yes, FJCruiser owners are welcome. *** 😊
Yes, you can attend on either Friday or Saturday if being there only one day is all your schedule will allow.
Yes, you will need to be a member of the TLCA if you’re the driver. (The TLCA magazine alone is worth the TLCA membership fee). 😊

*** You may need to defend yourself around the nightly campfires but heck, the Prado guys have been doing that for years. 😁

Registration for this event closes tonight at midnight. The numbers for this year FAR exceeds those of last year for which we are very grateful. We should be able to write a respectable check to our chosen ALS charity.
Thanks ….. 👍

Being part of the herd is yet another reason to wear an event t-shirt. 😁

If you joined the TLCA after the registration period please make sure we receive your membership number. ONLY verified members will be able to participate (in the drivers seat).
Thanks

Unless I have spoken to you personally or you are already familiar with the format you should be receiving an email with event details. (Check your spam folder). 😊

While some mechanical issues are unpredictable and unavoidable, please take time to check the simple stuff like battery security, seatbelt condition and overall mechanical integrity. Anticipating the simple things makes the task more enjoyable. 😊

Accommodation as well, right? Do I need to reserve a campsite in advance, or can I play it by ear once I get there?

I would highly recommend booking early. There are also a number of hotels in nearby Oak Ridge (about 12 minutes from the park).

I‘ll be hitting the road early Monday morning to visit some family in the Atlanta area prior to heading to Windrock.
I can be reached at 229-221-eight,six,zero,six during this period or “78toyota@gmail.com”.
As I mentioned earlier, cell phone service inside of the park is akin to smoke signals so email may be the best way to communicate for last minute information. During the event we will only be able to check emails first thing in the mornings and in the evenings.

Question, I have limited to no experience with the GMRS but will we have a specific station // frequency? thinking on turning it on when im close to say hi to those already there!

We will be there early on Thursday so maybe someone wants to do some light trails with us.

Saludos,

Part of the problem with GMRS is that it is very popular (not a bad problem to have ). The ease to obtain a license and the fact that the license covers the whole familiar and is inexpensive plays a large role in the platforms popularity. At a location like Windrock there may be a lot of other groups also using GMRS and you’ll most likely find it necessary to change frequencies a few times during the day to avoid ”cross-traffic”. Hopefully that sheds some light on your question.

For the event, we will plan to use GMRS channels 6 and 16. Ideally we will use a CTCSS tone of 100 Hz which on Midland radios is code 12. Hoping this is enough notice that folks can get their radios set up / programmed

looking great Charles - is that the Buc-ees before MACON, GA?? I’ll probably stop there on the way.

we will leave tonight around 4am to get some clear roads - will be posting pics of the trip in the IG handle @_bandit_Panda if anyone wants to follow.

we are driving up from south florida, happy to get more cars in our 65mph caravan :)
