I gotta admit even I got a belly laugh out of the initial juvenile trolling response from the forum brain trust; albeit from an entirely different alphabetic perspective...touché! I just love it!
The question is...I've been using the WIX 51773 oil filter since the demise of the OEM 15600-41010. Can anyone recommend using the WIX 51515 as specified in the WIX FITMENT MANUAL over the larger WIX 51773 that seems to baffle every behind the counter retail parts guy/girl?

think I just used a 51515. I'll go check in a bit.

yes, 51515, on my 88 fj62

Been using a 51515 for a while now. Works for me.

NAPA Gold 1515 same as Wix 51515. For years, in all my Land Cruisers. Since the -41010 went away, no reason to use anything else.

I work for Napa in My town. 1773 is the Napa Gold/Wix filter, before I worked for the store I just requested the filter by # and never had to explain what it was being bought for. I always use the larger filter, more capacity and filter media to screen out contaminants.
One thing I was told after I started working with Napa is Wix does a really good job of warranting the filters they manufacture. That being said, if a filter fails and causes a catastrophic failure and isn't the one recommended for the vehicle by the catalog you are SOL when it comes to the warranty.

The larger one is a 10u filter and the smaller is a 30u filter. the larger one is spec'd for off-road construction or something like that. I looked it up a few years ago, so may be some faulty rememberin going on as to exactly why it's a 10 micron filter.

Also, there is a Wix 51515R (racing version of the 51515) that is also heavy duty spec.

And I was just looking on Wix site and see now there's a 51515XP that uses synthetic media, like the LL Amsoil, Mobil, etc ...

Good stuff.

Which one would you choose...Size over Micron rating or vice versa? (Both models are approved on the WIX expanded application guide for the 88FJ62)

- WIX #51773
Height 6.98
Diameter 3.66
Micron rating 32

- WIX #51515
Height 5.19
Diameter 3.66
Micron rating 21

I'm happy with the 515 but I have the last 41010. I bought some replacement which is made in Thailand.

these numbers seem to indicate the 51515 has a finer filter element...

I run a Baldwin B2 or the B2 HPG (dusty conditions) which is a HD cross for the 51515 and excellent flow. About $9. Baldwin makes the Amsoil filters.

The 51773 is a heavy duty spec'd for Ford and Massey-Ferguson tractors. You'll get an extra qt of oil if you use it.

But really, any of the above mentioned are excellent filters. What's more important is frequent oil changes with the proper zddp content oil. There, you can't have a proper filter/oil discussion without mentioning it.

Are we wanting the smallest micron filtering number?

on the web
Wix 51773 is 32 m.u
wix 51515xp is 21 m
wix 51515 is also 21 m

but just read that micron rating is useless without knowing the efficiency percentage .....jeez
