88 Power window switches?

Hey you guys with the SR5's and the flat style switch, (switch B) do you have an auto or a 5 speed? My SR5 V6 has a slushbox so I wonder if that has anything to do with it? Islander, busmup same question, auto or manual? The answers could help answer the question or add to the confusion.

i wish your brown switch was working I would trade you mr gray one thats in my 4runner that has brown interior . do you have to take the door panel fully off to take the switch off

Never mind that it's brown. I got it on fleabay, "Works perfectly" used. Sure.

I assure you my 4Runner is an SR5. SR5 badge in rear, SR5 logo seats , 6-way adjustable driver seat, power antenna, rear heater, etc.

Yours is an early production truck correct? I'm thinking some time around 85 they started putting the bigger switch in the door panel in some and the armrest switch in some.

So can I order switch a? What's the price?

I am pretty sure that switch "A" is 84820-89104, which is available, Toyota has them in stock, and I am awaiting the return of the switches that I sent out that were incorrect. Once I can verify that switch "A" is the correct switch, I'll let you know price and all that.

Here's a better picture from my 85

My 84 SR5 4runner has the basic flat switch for both windows, no lockout. Did Busmup change out his panels? The interior is brown and the panel is grey.
I am pretty sure that 84-85's had the same switches (flat). In the center console, 84's did not have a lockout for the rear window, but I am not sure about the 85's.
If you really want to see a contrast, look at a loaded 89. The one I had did have the contoured panels, but also added the power mirror switch to the driver side armrest.

Yeah well... if the switch worked I would have painted it a long time ago.

You don't really have to take off the whole door panel, but it's a lot easier. The armrest screws and the door handle also hold the panel on. There's a few clips and those pop out easy. Door puddle light connector, and windows switch connector and you're done. 10 minutes if you're slow and have to look for a screwdriver.

If you really want to see a contrast, look at a loaded 89. The one I had did have the contoured panels, but also added the power mirror switch to the driver side armrest.

My 88 is loaded like that. Power mirrors, the molded door panels etc. I am thinking of ditching the power mirrors.

Sorry to confuse everybody. My 85 is a SR5 with a 5spd and it came stock grey interior with the door panel you see in the picture. This truck had every option Toyota had for this year. Being that I'm from Hawaii, none of these options were coming down our way. This truck was made in 10/85 so i don't know. I also bought this truck here in WA, where I now live. I no longer have the truck, but i had a 86 2wd turbo that i wrecked and swapped entire interior to brown. I couldn't use the drivers door panel because i was tboned on the drivers door. Glad to be alive, as they needed the jaws of life to take me out. I was more pissed that my truck was smashed than my injuries. Truck only had 45 original miles.

This door panel style didn't come out until later in this generation, I believe 1988 was the first year, only on the "fully loaded" SR5 models. This is the same panel I am upgrading to, same color. I had the upper insert portion (lighter gray in this photo) reupholstered with new velour at a shop that specializes in auto and boat interiors (Superior Interiors), they look brand new now. I'm giving up the map pockets and adding a set of 5-1/4" Hertz speakers to my doors, I'll have to space them out a little with some wooden trim rings, and I might even get adventurous with some fiberglass surrounds. I carefully scrubbed the rest to remove any stains, used Resolve and TuffStuff to clean them, they look great. Mine don't have the power mirror switches on the doors, the switch was in that little cubby to the left of the gauge cluster. I'm not installing the power mirrors, too much trouble for little benefit. I think I have a couple mirror switches in my stash, if anybody needs them.

This is the door panel that was in my '84 Xcab SR5:

Basic 2 switches for the windows, no power locks, no passenger window lockout provision, no puddle lights.

That's how i bought it. My 86 22ret had the same door panels! Even my other 22ret 4wd had those door panels. If it only came out in 88, something's very wrong here.

It is only a small part of my job (which I created for myself) but it's definitely my favorite part!

Based on what people are saying about the "later" style switches coming out in 88 I think is incorrect. From what I have seen, it looks like the "small" switches (just the 2 window switches, no window lock) came in the 83-84 SR5 Runners. The "bigger" switch came in around 85. Those are for the door panel mounted switch. The armrest switch is still somewhat of a mystery. It looks like the early turbo trucks had that style (based on options maybe? not really sure) and the later(?, not sure when they started, thinking 85?) Runners had it as an option.

Always throwing a in the gears... I think I stated it in one of my earlier posts but it looks like the production date is pretty fluid. I don't think we're going to be able to nail it down 100%.
