88 Power window switches?

Lowe, you say there are some of the armrest mounted master switches for an 88 4runner still shown in grey, in the warehouses?

Any chance you could double check that? The one in my project is pretty toasted and I have been watching eBay, but they are few and far between and for near the same price as you show for a new one.

Here's a better picture from my 85

It's been a few weeks since I've seen my door panels, but I am pretty sure the ones in my 88 are very similar to those. So any confirmation on the availability?

where are all of the new part guys at?

Well, I talked to Sam at LOWE this morning and if his computer is correct, I just got the last New armrest mounted switch in North America for my 88 4Runner.

I sure do hope the computer wasn't playing a VERY mean trick on me. We shall see. :bounce:

Well I got the switch today, but I think I was confused as to what "mounted in the armrest" means. Mine looks like the one in busmup808's picture above. Got to give Sam a call in the morning.

Looks like Snap-On has struck again. I think they have them labelled backwards in the catalog. Stay tuned while I try to figure this mess out.

jynx, you're not the only one who has gotten a wrong switch.

Ok, so I have talked to Sam at Lowe and we are getting sorted but just for reference here are the two types of switches.

Switch A (sorry phone pic of the computer screen)

Looks like switch B was used on the doors of earlier 4Runners, here's a pic of the driver's door of my son's '87 4Runner SR5, same switch:

Is it an SR5 truck? From the sound of it, these particular panels and switches were definitely SR5 trucks, but may also be tied to them being V6 or Turbo 4cyl motors. So I was just curious.

Edit: Wait, that can't be right because busmup has the same panels on his 85, now I am very confused. Surely this isn't like lockers in 80's, there has to be a logic behind the type of interior trim package that each received.

From what I have determined so far in my great amount of research into this, KLF seems to be correct. It has to be an SR5 to have power windows at all and I'm thinking that the production range is one of the differences. The catalog is not exactly crystal clear on the descriptions and usages however... They are all listed for the same model codes, SR5, production ranges vary.

jynx, as we discussed earlier, the switch you have in the picture above (a) I believe is part #84820-89104 which IS available, not disco'd, (sent one to someone else, also was wrong) and seems to have been snuck in all the way from 85 (only in Turbo trucks? Maybe?) and then used on some of the later production trucks, depending on what type of door panel you have. The one you received, 84820-89103-23, is if you have the other type of door panel (like busmup) and production range, again, varies.

The one that jynx has, is the LAST one they had in stock. It is disco'd and will no longer be available from this point forward.

I have sent out return packing slips and labels to those of you who bought switches and they were wrong. Again, I apologize for the inconvienence and I'm going to send you all a little something for your trouble. :o

Ok, first KLF I obviously can't read, sorry I missed the SR5.

Sam, no worries just one of those things, I just appreciate that you are going the extra mile to make things right for those of us who can't read...

Not ALL 1st gen SR5 trucks have the larger switches. This is my master switch:

Never mind that it's brown. I got it on fleabay, "Works perfectly" used. Sure.

I assure you my 4Runner is an SR5. SR5 badge in rear, SR5 logo seats :grinpimp:, 6-way adjustable driver seat, power antenna, rear heater, etc.

Hey you guys with the SR5's and the flat style switch, (switch B) do you have an auto or a 5 speed? My SR5 V6 has a slushbox so I wonder if that has anything to do with it? Islander, busmup same question, auto or manual? The answers could help answer the question or add to the confusion.

Mine's a 5-speed manual

I have a 22re/W56 SR5. I ordered a gray switch B (in jynx's pic) today from John Hocker at Sierra Toyota (awesome cruiserhead/parts guru). He said there were 4 left in LA but they were discontinued.

My son's '87 is definitely an SR5, it has every option that I'm aware of, except that it's a 5 speed. Sunroof, cruise, etc.

msahr, that smaller switch block is what was in the earlier trucks, I have a set of door panels in storage from my '84 SR5 XCab in gray, with the switches intact, they are the smaller ones like that.
