Hi ya'll

New member to this forum and new owner of a 87 SR5 22re 4Runner Mileage (191,xxx). Couldn't be more excited about it. Runs great and did a bunch of work last weekend (7-8-17)

- value cover gasket
- belts
- timing chain
- new fluids - Diff - Trans - transmission - coolant - Engine coolant
- plugs - wire - cap router
- fuel filter

sure there is more - can't remember everything

Few questions that I haven't been able to find not on the search function (forgive my computer inabilities)

My driver side winder is missing the rubber seal - correctly has tape that is doing a very poor job to keep rain out and the window lined up. Looking to replace that rubber gasket. Haven't been able to find it at the dealer or scrap yard. Any options?

my passages side window switch is broken (it's the one that is mounted on the door panel vertically) - I took apart both side and got the drive side cleaned up and working but the plastic case is broken on the passage side. Any options out there? something that looks OEM?

the last question at the moment is about the transfer case - Mine seems to be leaking from everywhere. I cleaned it up and hoping to narrow it down once i get a few miles on it -

Thanks for all the help so far and look forward to the replies;

I can send photos if needed

Welcome! Pictures are mandatory!

I'm not sure which seal you are referring to. If you mean the weatherstripping that sits at the base of the window, on the door, those are still available from toyota, I just bought and installed one a few months ago. Or do you mean the window channel gasket? I found those aftermarket on ebay, they were an exact match for the original.

Good luck finding that switch, they are long gone from the Toyota warehouses. Junkyard or ebay will be your best option.

Check the seals at both ends, also make sure it wasn't overfilled.

Thanks for the informations.

The seal for the window is the channel gasket - Below you can see a fairly bad photo of the location.

I will check the Transfer case for overfill - can i check the seals without removing the U-joint?

Has anyone run the "Switch Doctor" window switches? I saw them on the eBay - Thanks for the info again.

Also, Anyone have advice on the side view mirrors? OEM or otherwise?

One man army - Thanks for the info - Will give the dealer a shout when they open.

I saw a few forum post about running 2014 FJ cruiser mirrors - Anyone have an thoughts about running them? Likes dislikes?

OK, yes those are the window channel seals. I also replaced my door gaskets at the same time, much less wind noise in the truck now.

I agree that the FJ Cruiser mirrors would look too big. Those are power mirrors, eBay or a used lot is the best place to find them. Or, if you don't need the power function, there are lots of aftermarket choices that should pop right on and they look pretty good. I have bought from these guys and their products are pretty good:

Search Results for mirror - 1A Auto

You'll have to pull the door cards off anyway to replace the window channels, so you could also disconnect the power mirrors at the same time. There is a small harness that goes from the main door harness up to the mirrors, pull those out at the same time so they don't cause any trouble down the road.

Thanks KLF -

When you replaced your door gaskets where did you locate your parts? my window is horribly loud and lets rain in as well so anything is in movement. i'll give it some research

Thanks for the mirror advice - only thing i enjoy is keeping it with factory options like the power mirrors (just my two cents)

Change the subject a bit but has anyone done body mount replacement?

Thanks for all the insight -

Nice I also have an 87 4runner sr5!
I had the same problem with my power driver side mirror. I totally love them on a daily driver. I fixed mine by making a cutout of the exact glass shape with styrofoam board. I brought that to a glass shop and they cut me a new mirror for $30. It looks great and works good. However, I'm going to re do it because the mirror glass is pretty thick compared to factory side mirror glass so the mirror sags a little. I would recommend making a cutout then go to a junkyard pull a donor mirror glass then bring that and your cutout to the glass shop.

Thanks for the advice - Have any photos of the mirror and glass you cut - One of my issues with both mirrors is the plastic backing is broken and it's being held in by a few zip ties and those rubber bands

Might pull them off and see if there is anything you make work - I would like to keep them movable with the motor if possible

I found the invoice from my door seals today, they came from a place called Convertible Top Specialists in FL, their website is www.topsdown.com. Oddly, I can't find the door seals on their website but I remember that I actually bought them on eBay. The part number is WEADSDWP511084, I paid $65 shipped. Be careful when you put them on, pay attention to the orientation as it possible to install them backwards (L seal on R door). What's nice is they come with the little pegs that snap into the holes already attached, you just pop them on, only takes a few minutes.

I did swap out all my body mount bushings on the cab for polyurethane, it is definitely noticeable, some might not like it but I do. I used the Energy Suspension kit, I think I bought it at Jegs. energysuspension.com | Welcome

Working on an List of parts for order. It's been overwhelming hot in the area and my garage doesn't have A/C plus work has been busy....

Working on a solution for the cargo and cab area of my 87 4Runner with lighting - The cargo light only works with the headlight correct? if so that gets pretty old specially gearing up in the dark. The other issue is only the map lights work and it's fairly dim at best.

The idea that I search the forum for is
Led lights mounted to the roll bar that faces both ways. Wire it up with a 2-way switch that mounts in the tailgate area & the dash. Also, Like to replace the factory lights with Led.

Let me know if anyone has options or ideas.

The LED lights i was thinking about was

- Rigid D-Series Flood

Has anyone run the "Switch Doctor" window switches? I saw them on the eBay - Thanks for the info again.

Also, Anyone have advice on the side view mirrors? OEM or otherwise?

The Switch Doctor switches are good, but be careful. There are a couple different ways to wire the power window switches. If you use one of their switches and it is the wrong configuration, it may fry your front door lock/power window module. Ask me how I know:hmm:

For mirrors, the 60 Series mirrors are a good fit if you want to get away from the power mirrors.

Looking to upgrade my rear bumper

The truck was back into a few years about - lucky no body or frame damage just bent the OEM bumper

Looking to find a non - tube style rear bumper for the 87' 4Runner Hoping it has a built in hitch

I saw the tube and if that's my only option i'll take it -

Last fall i built a off road bumper for my 03' Allroad which turn out awesome but it nearly took 2 full weeks to get everything sorted and correct.

Looking for a factory made option if possible. Thanks fro the advice!

4x4 Labs is the way to go for non tube rear bumper. I have one on my 87 and love it! Ain't cheap and 4x4 Labs has a wait right now, but is awesome!

Thread that has pics;)

Just got the doors apart and the switch door switch is wired wrong.

Wonder if you had a photo or diagram of what wire goes where I would great appreciate the help!!! The side door had no issues. The main lock and unlock and windows seem to all be wrong.

I assume i can match wire to wire if needed

Thanks

Sadly, I didn't listen and was to excited to plug the switch in. Now my old controls won't work... Please say there is a rely or fuse for the windows if not my window motors might be F-ed.

Thanks guys

Never mind.
