Save the oil and tow it to a mechanic if you are still not sure. You won't see big bits and pieces in the oil, it will be pretty fine.

It may be a long shot at this point, but I'd still recommend loosening the belts and verifying that you don't have a seized accessory that's preventing it from turning. A seized smog pump would be a happy ending and a really quick thing to check.
