Got an engine in my place right now with the leftover parts of 2 fuel pump arms in the oil pan.

Everyone, these are the types of things that happen when a "mechanic" decides to cut corners. Never install a mechanical fuel pump into a 2F without that spacer!

Darin, which motor was that, not out of your 87. How many donor 2Fs do you have laying around?

I thought it depended on the pump used. :hhmm:

it does depend, fuel pumps with 3 hoses need the spacer, older pumps with only 2 hose connections do not need a spacer.

Not really. This is the FJ60 forum, so it's understood that all FJ60 engines use the crimped pump w/ spacer.

But since you brought it up:

E-78 engines & pumps did not use a spacer.

E-78 pumps will bolt to E-84 engines without the spacer.

E-78 pumps will need the 79-84 spacer to operate correctly on 85-later engine blocks.

79-newer pumps will bolt to E-84 blocks with the 79-84 spacer.

79-newer pumps bolt to 85-later blocks with the thicker 85-later spacer.

That should cover it....

Old thread bump.
What are the thicknesses of the 79-84 spacer vs the 85-later spacer?

If anyone needs it:

August of '80 to October of '84 spacer is 90923-06001.

October of '84 and later spacer is 90923-06008.

I'll post the thickness later - I've got both of those spacers, in the plastic... Trick will be finding them.

But IIRC, I bought them both to check exactly that, and the only difference I could tell was a slightly different shape.

Measurements and pix to follow.

;)

Thanks. That world be great.

Well, what I've got is a 90923-06009 which is the updated 06001 and the 06014 which I thought was the updated 06008, but the EPC is saying it's for a Hilux ...?

Anyway, here's the pix.

Diff is the earlier one does not have bonded gaskets. Later has gaskets. Thickness is the same at 5mm, or 6mm for the one with the gaskets. Gaskets are .45mm

:meh:

A little more searching reveals the 06008 was super'd to 06010 and that only shows as an app for late 80s 4R and pickup ... So maybe the 06014 is the latest as I just got these a couple months ago.

Jim C. has stated, in a different thread, there was a change in FP geometry when the 3F block was introduced 10/84, but if that translates into spacer thickness I dunno. I've compared used spacers off 2F and 3F blocks and I don't remember there being any thickness difference, but who knows what was replaced along the way.

Is this for the engine in the Great Gazoo ?

Yeah. The pump is bad and in changing it I want to be sure I use the right thing. There is a spacer in there now. Just want to be sure it is right.

If the spacer/isulator is stuck to the block and you want to take it off. First get your replacement spacer.
The backelite plastic normally breaks in the process of taking it off. I would just leave it in place and put a new paper gasket between the pump and the spacer.

Not the issue being discussed but thanks anyway.
